The Daily Life of the Demon King

Chapter 719 - 718: Time to Do a Lot of Work.

Chapter 719 - 718: Time to Do a Lot of Work.

The return to the bunker went surprisingly calmly. If you don't count the fact that another freeloader had appeared in the bunker in the form of an ancient witch who was ready to do anything to protect her life, including parting with the Book of the Damned. At that moment, Alex, Dean, and Sam didn't care that Rowena had decided to hide right under their noses, as long as she didn't catch Amara's eye.Upon returning to the bunker, everyone had their own thoughts that they wanted to think over in silence. Crowley, not wasting any time, grabbed a bottle of whiskey and headed to his little closet where he had been living for the past month. Alex and Dean watched the arrogant former King of Hell leave and thought that Crowley had gotten way too comfortable living under their roof. Observing this, Dean couldn't resist a sarcastic comment directed at Crowley's back.

"Maybe we should bring you a TV in your closet so you'll be more comfortable?" Dean said, watching Crowley walk away.

"I don't need a second TV, squirrel," Crowley replied with a smirk on his face as he left the main hall.

Dean froze in place and turned his head toward Alex with a silent question: what the hell, since when does Crowley have a TV in his closet? Alex just yawned and reminded him that the noisy trio that had been watching Crowley lived in their bunker. Most likely, GIR, MIMI, and Stitch had dragged the TV there so they wouldn't get bored and then simply forgot to take it back. Dean could only nod and sigh heavily, not intending to deal with that shit.

At that moment, Dean was concerned about their future plans to stop Amara. He no longer said "defeat Amara" or "kill her" — he specifically talked about stopping her. Alex didn't comment on Dean's words and only said that they needed to rest a little to gather strength before the upcoming search. Hearing Alex's words, Dean nodded, understanding that even more work awaited them.

Just as they were about to go to sleep, Sam returned to the main hall after settling Rowena in. Sam's face at that moment said a lot — he clearly didn't want to deal with Crowley and Rowena, and he would have gladly kicked this pair out of the bunker.

Upon returning, Sam immediately asked what their plan of action was. Alex repeated the same thing he had told Dean a moment earlier. Hearing this, Sam nodded, agreeing that they needed to rest before getting back to work.

After discussing the upcoming plans once more, Alex, Dean, and Sam went to their rooms to rest. Returning to his room, Alex saw that Lucina, Samantha, and Wednesday were already asleep. Trying not to wake the three girls, Alex quickly changed into sleepwear using magic and lay down on the edge so as not to disturb anyone.

Lying on his side, Alex texted Integra asking her to send him the documents he had taken from the British Men of Letters. Integra replied with just one word: "Good" — and wrote nothing more. Before going to bed, Alex also texted Enid and Alice, asking when they would return.

Enid replied instantly, saying they would return tomorrow because Alessa wouldn't need to return to Hellsing next week due to Integra being busy. Alex chatted a little more with Enid and Alice, asking how Doll and Maria were doing.

Reading dozens of messages from Enid where she complained that Integra had forced her to work and do things she didn't like, and had even paid her for all that work, Alex could barely hold back his laughter. Looking at the phone screen, Alex rubbed his eyes slightly, thinking he must have misread it. But even after rubbing his eyes, he still saw Enid's message about Integra paying her.

Alex texted Enid to clarify the details, and she sent a screenshot of her screen showing money deposited into her card. Seeing this, Alex could no longer hold back and started laughing quietly. He wasn't surprised at all that Integra had done something like that. And Alex was sure that Integra had told Enid and Alice afterward that this was payment for their labor. Chuckling quietly, Alex shook his head until he received a slap to the face.

"Stop laughing and go to sleep. Or I'll push you onto the floor," Lucina muttered sleepily, slapping Alex in the face again.

"Okay, okay. Keep sleeping," Alex said, kissing Lucina's hand.

Lucina sighed and kicked Alex in the ass with her foot, letting him know he should go to sleep already. After chatting a little more with Enid and Alice, Alex wished them good night and put his phone on the nightstand next to the bed. Stretching slightly, Alex turned onto his side and hugged Lucina, pulling her closer. Lucina instinctively hugged Alex back, burying her nose in his neck, and immediately fell asleep, holding him tightly in her sleep.

Falling asleep, Alex didn't waste time thinking or planning his next steps. After all, he knew he had more than enough time before the upcoming finale that Chuck had written. Holding Lucina close, Alex fell asleep very quickly with one simple thought: he just needed to continue playing the role he had chosen for himself in Chuck's play.

Morning came quite quickly, and Alex was still sleeping. By then, Lucina had already woken up and slipped out of Alex's embrace, heading to take her morning shower. The sound of running water from the bathroom woke Samantha and Wednesday, who had been sleeping until then. Samantha sleepily sat up, rubbing her eyes and looking around.

Yawning, Samantha saw Alex sleeping on the edge of their bed and tilted her head, trying to remember when Alex had returned. After staring at Alex's sleeping face for a few moments, Samantha still couldn't remember when he had come back and just yawned again. Literally rolling out of bed, Samantha began doing her morning exercises to wake up while Lucina occupied the bathroom.

The last to wake up was Wednesday, who, as always, slept in her usual pose with her arms crossed over her chest. Opening her eyes, Wednesday slowly sat up, and the first thing she saw was Samantha doing her morning exercises. Stopping her gaze on Samantha, Wednesday shifted it to Alex. Blinking, Wednesday reached out and pinched Alex's nose, not letting him breathe. A moment later, Alex opened his eyes, and Wednesday saw his usual grumpy morning look.

"Coffee," Wednesday said in just one word, removing her hand from Alex's face.

"Give me five minutes… Maybe ten," Alex said sleepily, yawning slightly as he got out of bed.

"If you're up, can you make me a fruit smoothie and a croissant?" Samantha asked, continuing her yoga and turning her head toward Alex.

"Anything else?" Alex asked, yawning and getting up from the bed.

"Coffee and a light breakfast. Please," Lucina said, coming out of the shower wrapped in a towel.

Lucina walked over to Alex, kissed him on the cheek, and then pulled his arm, helping him up. Sighing, Alex rubbed his face and went to wash up before heading to cook breakfast. Wednesday followed Alex so as not to waste time. While brushing his teeth, Alex told Wednesday that another freeloader had now moved into the bunker — Rowena.

Wednesday only looked at Alex's reflection in the mirror and nodded. She didn't care that an ancient witch who knew her distant ancestor Goody Addams had settled in the bunker. Wiping his face with a towel, Alex left the bathroom together with Wednesday. By then, Lucina had already changed and was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding her phone.

"What are you watching?" Alex asked, walking over to Lucina.

"I don't know, maybe there's some work… I'm thinking we could go to another state to get some fresh air. If there's anything interesting," Lucina said, showing the screen of her phone.

"If you find something interesting, don't forget to tell me," Alex said, nodding and changing clothes with magic.

Lucina waved her phone, letting him know that if she found anything interesting, she would tell him right away. While Samantha was taking her morning shower, Alex went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for everyone. The last person Alex wanted to see that morning was Rowena. And fortunately for Alex, his prayers were answered — only Dean and Sam were in the kitchen, drinking coffee.

Waving at Dean and Sam, Alex began cooking breakfast for the girls. While preparing breakfast, Alex listened to Dean and Sam's conversation behind him. After finishing cooking, Alex set everything on the table and sat down next to Dean to drink coffee.

"Did you ask your aristocrat wife for help?" Dean asked, taking a sip of coffee and turning his head toward Alex.

"Yes. Integra said she'd send all the documents she has," Alex said, nodding and lightly stretching his neck.

"When? We need to start searching as soon as possible," Sam asked, getting up from the table to pour himself another cup of coffee.

"The girls are coming back from London today… And I think they'll bring all the documents with them," Alex said, stroking his chin and taking out his pocket watch.

"Oh, right. Alessa is doing some kind of training there," Dean said, nodding and swirling his coffee mug.

"Not just some training. Training to become the heir. Those are two different things, Dean. You should have taken better care of the child who considers you her uncle," Sam said, looking at his brother with a dry gaze.

"Sorry, Sammy, that I don't understand all this aristocratic nonsense with inheritance," Dean said in an exaggerated tone, waving his hand.

Sam just looked at Dean and shook his head, continuing his breakfast. While continuing to drink coffee, Alex talked with Dean and Sam about what they needed to do while Amara was busy with Lucifer. While Alex, Dean, and Sam were making plans to figure out where to start, the girls entered the kitchen to have breakfast.

So as not to get in the girls' way, Alex, Dean, and Sam took their coffee and headed to the library, where they could continue the discussion. Discussing Dean's theory that only God's chosen one should use the Hand of God, it seemed quite doubtful that day, and Sam didn't forget to mention it.

Listening to Sam's explanations, Alex nodded slightly, agreeing with his opinion. Alex himself was thinking that the Hand of God contained Amara's power — the light that Chuck had taken from Amara, turning her into the Darkness.

"Dean, and where are we going to find this chosen one?" Alex asked, looking at Dean with interest.

"I don't know… Maybe it's me? I was the perfect vessel for Michael…" Dean began, pointing at himself.

"Dean… Remember what's inside you, and then talk about being the chosen one," Sam said, shaking his head and rejecting his brother's words.

"And could you even wound Amara, Dean?… Because as far as I remember, the last time I attacked Amara, you stood in my way," Alex added, rocking on his chair with his hands behind his head.

Hearing Alex's comment, Dean couldn't find a single word to argue with. After all, after all those conversations with Amara — when she appeared to him in dreams or during their private meetings — his thoughts that Amara was evil had almost completely disappeared. And along with that, his thoughts about harming Amara had become even more impossible.

The only thing still keeping Dean on their original path to stop Amara was the fact that in her thirst for revenge, she could destroy everything. And only that supported Dean's desire to stop Amara. If Amara hadn't intended to destroy the world, Dean had even momentarily thought about siding with her.

When this thought flashed through Dean's mind, he just shook his head. But Amara's words that she wasn't the main villain in this story kept surfacing in Dean's head, causing him frequent doubts. Dean had discussed this topic with Alex many times, but not with Sam.

Because he knew his brother definitely considered Amara a villain and blamed himself for her being freed. Seeing Dean go silent and thoughtful again, Sam turned his head toward Alex to continue the discussion.

"If this chosen one theory and all that isn't a hundred percent option, maybe we can use the Hand of God differently?" Sam said thoughtfully, leaning forward and resting his arms on the table.

"What exactly are you suggesting? How else can the Hand of God be used?" Alex asked, raising an eyebrow at Sam's question.

"I don't know… We have the Book of the Damned. Maybe make a bomb, a cage, anything to restrain or stop Amara," Sam began listing options, looking at Alex and frowning slightly.

"Technically…" Alex said, stroking his chin.

"Technically it's possible if…" Sam said, finishing Alex's thought.

"Yes, technically it's possible — to use the energy hidden in the Hand of God. But for that we need the Hand of God itself," Alex said, tapping his finger on the table.

"Only Lucifer screwed up the last one when he decided to put on a light show for Amara. I don't know what he was trying to achieve. But he couldn't even ruin Amara's manicure," Dean interjected after his thoughts.

"So we wait until the girls return with the documents. Maybe the British nerds had some leads or something like that," Alex said, yawning and slightly rolling his shoulders to stretch.

"If we have to wait, then I'm going for beer. Want some?" Dean said with a shrug, standing up from his chair.

"Dude, it's not even lunch yet and you're already ready to drink beer?" Sam said, looking at his brother suspiciously.

"As I understand it, yes. You in, Alex?" Dean said with a smile, looking at Sam and then shifting his gaze to Alex.

"Why not. And grab some chips. I'll call Alice to find out when they're coming back," Alex said with a smile, taking out his phone.

Dean grinned and gave a thumbs up, leaving the library to head to the kitchen. Sam just sighed and said nothing. When Dean left, Alex called Alice to find out when they would return. After a short conversation with Alice, Alex ended the call and put his phone on the table. Sam nodded his head, asking when the girls would be back, and Alex replied that it would be after lunch, once they gathered everything they needed.

Sam nodded upon hearing the answer and pulled his laptop closer to see what he could find. Alex, meanwhile, was looking at photos that Enid had posted during her trip to London. Alex wasn't surprised that Enid was still in contact with her friends from Nevermore.

While browsing through a huge number of photos, Alex looked up when Dean returned, carrying several packs of snacks and a case of beer. Sitting down at the table, Dean nodded at Alex with a silent question about what he was looking at on his phone. Alex turned the phone screen toward Dean. Seeing what Alex was doing, Dean gave him a look that said: "Are you serious?" Alex just rolled his eyes and took a bottle of beer for himself.

Alex, Dean, and Sam continued sitting in the library drinking beer while waiting for Alice, Enid, and Doll to return from London. While they were sitting in the library, Lucina came in, saw all this, and just laughed, taking her laptop to work somewhere else and not disturb Alex, Dean, and Sam. Alex and Dean talked about weapons, browsing different sites, while Sam, sipping beer, read the latest news reports.

Time passed very quickly, and the time came when the girls were supposed to return. And when that time arrived, the shadow behind Alex slightly distorted and began to stretch.

A moment later, Enid, Alice, and Doll appeared behind Alex, holding boxes filled with documents. Only Alessa was holding her plush friend — the rabbit Robbie. Alex, Dean, and Sam quickly stood up to take the documents from the girls.

"There are more boxes than I thought," Sam said, taking the boxes of documents from Doll's hands.

"This isn't even all of them. It took us almost the entire morning to pack them into boxes," Enid said, wiping sweat from her forehead as Alex took the boxes from her.

"Then where's the rest?" Dean asked, setting the boxes of documents on the table.

"Here… And, Dad, there's something for you," Alessa said, pointing at her shadow and looking up at Alex.

Alessa's shadow expanded, and even more boxes appeared from it, filled to the brim with various things that needed to be sorted and reviewed. Dean and Sam, seeing such a mountain of boxes with documents, mentally calculated how much time they would need to go through it all. And from first impressions, they understood that sorting and reviewing such a mountain of documents would take at least a whole week, if not more.

Alex just blinked in surprise, remembering that he had indeed carried out a huge pile of various documents from all the secret Men of Letters bases across London, including their main headquarters disguised as a private academy. Enid and Alice chuckled slightly, seeing the faces of Alex, Dean, and Sam.

Exchanging glances, both girls decided to find different excuses to leave. Only Doll stood behind the girls, thinking about how much she had missed Alex and wanting to hug him. Sighing, Alex smiled and turned to Alessa, who was talking about wanting to know what she had brought him.

"And what did my little princess bring me?" Alex said with a smile, stroking Alessa's hair, which made Dean grimace at Alex's words.

"Mom Carmilla said she doesn't need these anymore. And she told me to give them to you," Alessa said, taking out a pair of white gloves from the pocket of her dress.

Seeing the white gloves in Alessa's hands, Alex was quite surprised that Alucard had decided to give them to him. But he understood that the power Alucard now possessed could no longer be restrained by something like Cromwell's seal. After all, Alucard's power went beyond reality, and she herself could create personal dimensions for herself if she wished.

Taking the white gloves in his hands, Alex examined them from all sides and put them on. Moving his hands slightly, Alex quickly got used to them. Dean and Sam also looked at the gloves with interest. While Alex was examining the gloves, he told Dean and Sam what they were for and what the pentagram served.

"Alright, you guys chat here. I need to change. I'm tired and want to rest," Enid said with a smile, jumping up to kiss Alex on the cheek.

"You just don't want to help with the documents," Alex said with a smile, looking at Enid.

"You guessed it. And I also need to sort out the souvenirs and then send them home. So bye-bye," Enid said, immediately running off, bouncing slightly with every step.

"And you…" Alex began, turning his head toward Alice, but she was already gone.

"Without me. I also need to send souvenirs home," Alice said, standing at the library exit and holding the bored Alessa in her arms.

"I'll help you, dear Hunter. But first I need to change. Thanks to Enid and Alice, I have more clothes now…" Doll said, gently taking Alex's hand.

"You don't have to rush. We'll sort out the boxes here for now… And I missed you too," Alex said, hugging Doll.

Hearing Alex's words, Doll smiled tenderly and hugged him back, resting her chin on his shoulder. Dean and Sam, who were sorting through the mountain of boxes, looked at Alex and rolled their eyes, reminding him that he shouldn't slack off from this kind of work. Hearing this, Alex turned around and rolled his eyes, stopping the hug with Doll.

Doll continued smiling and gently kissed Alex on the cheek before leaving. Watching Doll walk away, Alex was glad that she was adapting better and better to normal life and beginning to realize herself more as a person, rather than someone who was supposed to guide hunters.

Smiling, Alex began helping Dean and Sam move the boxes of documents so they could sort them. The stickers with labels that Alice had put on them helped a lot with sorting, which Alex, Dean, and Sam were glad about — they wouldn't have to look inside every box to see what documents were there.

"Wow, we'll need to thank Alice for these stickers. We would have been digging through these boxes for days," Alex said, moving boxes to the other side.

"Well, she is your girlfriend, fiancée, or whatever you have. So you thank her… By the way, where does this box go?" Dean said with a smirk, holding a box in his hands.

"The box has books in it. So over here… The British accumulated quite a lot of knowledge," Sam said, taking the box from Dean's hands.

"So there's a chance we might find something useful or at least a few leads," Dean said, looking over the mountains of boxes.

"Possibly. I'll also contact Section 13; maybe they have something," Alex said, placing a box on the table.

"Section who? Who are you even talking about?" Dean asked, staring at Alex as if he had said something ridiculous.

"The Thirteenth Department of the Vatican, or Iscariot. They might really have something related to the Hand of God," Sam said, explaining to Dean who Alex was talking about.

"The Vatican? Didn't Cas say yesterday that the Vatican has empty pockets and they can't pull a miracle rabbit out of their holy ass?" Dean said in an exaggerated tone, reminding them of yesterday's conversation.

"As you said, they can't pull a miracle rabbit out of their ass. But maybe they know where to find that rabbit," Sam said, rolling his eyes at Dean and repeating his own words.

Dean looked at Sam and shrugged carelessly. Sam just sighed and opened the first box of documents, starting to lay them out on the table. Alex opened his box and also began taking out documents to start checking them. Seeing that Alex and Sam had started reviewing the documents, Dean also opened a box.

An hour later, a stack of reviewed documents already lay near Alex, Dean, and Sam. But nothing in these documents was related to what they were looking for. Another hour later, they finished the first boxes and set them aside with a simple label: "Trash." At the same time, Doll came in, bringing hot coffee that no one was going to refuse.

With such monotonous work, time dragged very slowly, and after another two hours and another box of documents, Dean was sitting on a chair covering his face with his hands and feeling a headache because everything was starting to blur in front of his eyes. Sam only looked up at Dean and continued sorting through the documents, reading them carefully. Alex worked the fastest, occasionally getting distracted to make coffee or adjust the glasses on his nose. Doll sat next to Alex, helping him with the work and carefully reviewing the documents as well.

"Heh. You've got a real corporate hell here… And it's a miracle that I get to see Dean Winchester himself working with documents. This is truly a miracle if there ever was one," Crowley's mocking voice sounded from the library entrance.

Dean, who was covering his face with his hands to rest his eyes, turned his head and looked at Crowley, who was behaving as if he owned the place. Crowley entered the library with a carefree smile, holding a glass of whiskey, casually stepping over boxes and folders of documents lying around.

Alex only glanced at Crowley for a moment and continued reviewing the documents. Sam didn't even look up, not wanting to deal with Crowley. After all, they didn't know how much time they had for the search while Amara was busy torturing Lucifer. Walking closer, Crowley picked up one of the folders lying next to Dean and began looking through it.

"Put it back, Crowley… And what the hell do you want? Go to your closet and stay there," Dean said, snatching the folder of documents from Crowley's hands.

"I would love to, squirrel. But my closet has turned into a snake's nest. And I have no desire to spend even one more minute in my mommy's company," Crowley said, giving Dean a blank look.

"And that's why you came demanding your own room? Forget it. Better get lost and go mind your own business," Dean said sarcastically, pinching the bridge of his nose to prevent a headache from starting.

"For example? Help you with the documents? I may be the King of Hell…" Crowley began, casually sitting down on a chair and stretching his legs forward.

"Former King of Hell… Don't forget that. And you should have taken care of that yesterday instead of sitting on our necks again," Alex said without looking up at Crowley.

"All in due time, Mr. Death. You can't just go and reclaim the throne. Let those idiots run around without their daddy for now," Crowley said with a smirk, swirling the glass of whiskey in his hand.

"And then you'll show up again as the Big Boss, sit on the throne and say: 'You should have been on my side from the beginning. I told you so,'" Dean said in an exaggerated tone, looking at Crowley like a predictable idiot.

"Drop that look, Dean… And yes, you're right. That's why I'll stick around a little longer. Drink whiskey that costs fifteen hundred a bottle. And then reclaim the throne," Crowley said in a lazy tone, bringing the glass of whiskey to his mouth.

Dean looked at Alex and Sam with a silent question: maybe they should throw Crowley out on the street and forget about this arrogant King of Hell? Alex just looked at Dean with a look that said they should simply ignore Crowley and he would leave on his own soon. Sam also thought they should just kick Crowley out, but right now he was very useful with his connections all over the world.

And therefore Crowley shouldn't be kicked out at this moment. Crowley himself ignored what they were discussing right in front of him. Thanks to his nature, he had been able to reclaim the Hell Throne time and time again. Seeing that Crowley wasn't going to leave, Dean gave him a blank look and returned to the documents and books.

Crowley calmly continued to sit, occasionally refilling his glass with whiskey and watching what was happening before his eyes. Crowley's gaze shifted to Doll, or rather to her doll-like hands. Raising an eyebrow, Crowley noticed that Doll really did look like a doll.

"And who is this new companion of yours that I don't know about?" Crowley asked, pointing at Doll.

"Don't ask questions you don't need to know about… Unless you want to end up on the street," Alex said, looking up at Crowley.

"I just asked. No need to react like that," Crowley said in a dry tone, raising his hands.

"And I just answered. Either sit quietly or go to your closet. In the worst case, you can help," Alex said, pointing at the mountains of boxes standing all over the library.

"Do you think this will help you in your search?" Crowley asked, lazily picking up a folder of documents.

"Do you have better options?… Oh, right, you don't. You can't ask your demons, because if they find something like this, they'll annihilate you immediately. Demons only dream of you dying," Dean said, standing up to grab another box.

Crowley said nothing in response to Dean's words and only narrowed his eyes. After all, Dean was right that right now any demon was ready to kill him just to stand out and take over the empty throne after Lucifer ended up in Amara's hands. Clicking his tongue, Crowley decided to pretend to help. After all, he couldn't return to his closet because Rowena was there now, and he definitely didn't want to spend time with her, constantly listening to how disappointed she was about this or that event in her life.

The last thing he wanted was to listen to sappy stories from a woman who hated him and whom he himself hated. Seeing that Crowley had shut up and started helping, Dean said nothing more and sat back down at the table, taking a sip of coffee before continuing to work.

To be continued...

(Well, after this, we can move on to the time skip, because you can't do everything in a day or two. Time passes, after all, and that's worth mentioning. Anyway, I'm currently rewatching season 11, and I realized there are only a few episodes left until the end, and I'm completely shocked by it. For some reason, I thought there would be more events before the end, but it turns out that's not the case. Those who watched the series will understand what I'm talking about. But this also gives me time to slightly adjust my plans for the ending and prepare some things for upcoming plots that I mentioned but didn't do. In the meantime, I'm going to go get something to eat. Peace, love, and you're still potatoes.)
