Chapter 783 The Golden Leg is Gone
Chapter 783 The Golden Leg is Gone
The little money-grubber's antics completely interrupted all of Ye Lingfeng's emotions.
What heartache? Now he only wanted to toss her back into the water for a bit longer. Clearly, she hadn't soaked enough!
Xi Mo was also at a loss for words, while Wen Jing stood nearby, struggling to hold back her laughter, her shoulders shaking nonstop.
"Hmph, laughing at me again."
Zhouzhou crossed her arms and hugged her plump self, her voice sweet and childish as she asked, "So, who's taking me to eat?"
Couldn't they take her words seriously? She had said she was hungry!
"Let's go, all together," Xi Mo said, holding back his laughter. He bent down and took Zhouzhou's hand.
Ye Lingfeng wasn't about to be outdone and grabbed her other hand.
It was already late by this time, and even the night patrol had finished. The ground was covered in snow, bitterly cold.
After walking a few steps, Ye Lingfeng couldn't help himself. He bent down, picked up his chubby daughter, unbuttoned his coat, and wrapped her inside. As he gently touched her head, he asked, "Make sure you take a nice hot bath when we get home so you don't catch a cold."@@@@
Wearing such thin clothes in this weather was bad enough, but she'd been standing on ice, jumping in and out of water all day. Even an adult couldn't handle that, let alone a child.
"Okay, okay!" Zhouzhou nodded enthusiastically, patting her little chest. "Don't worry, Daddy, I'm strong!"
"Still, we can't be careless," Ye Lingfeng reminded her.
Zhouzhou didn't argue. She nodded obediently.
After dinner, he made sure she drank a bowl of ginger soup and soaked in a hot bath. Only then did she fall asleep, wrapped in a cozy blanket, snoring softly.
Before falling asleep, she remembered the Dragon Vein, and in a dazed voice, she mumbled, "Daddy, when the bad guy comes, make sure to wake me up. I want to help catch them."
"Okay, go to sleep now."
Ye Lingfeng gently patted her. Once she was sound asleep, he sat by her side for a while longer. Hearing footsteps outside the door, he got up and walked out, not forgetting to grab two talismans from Zhouzhou's little bag.
"They've arrived," Wen Jing said in a low voice, standing at the door.
Xi Mo was by her side, obviously aware of the situation as well.
"Alright, let's go," Ye Lingfeng replied.
The three of them exchanged glances and walked out together, none of them looking back at Zhouzhou. Ye Lingfeng had also forgotten his promise to her.
Had it been during the day, they surely would have brought her along. But it was late, and after her exhausting training, they didn't want to drag her into any more trouble.
Seeing this, Ye Lingfeng shook his head. "Wow, how weak."
He'd thought the guy would be tougher. But no, he was pathetic.
Dragging him like a dead pig, Ye Lingfeng hauled him back.
Before long, Wen Jing and Xi Mo returned, bringing with them the people who had been trapped on the mountain.
Though the man in black wasn't a strong fighter, he had used underhanded tricks. He had thrown a confusion talisman that made people lose their sense of direction. By the time Wen Jing arrived, they had been wandering in circles.
"He went up to bury this." Wen Jing placed an object on the ground with a thud--it was a shovel, stained with blood.
Her eyes were icy. "Burying this on the mountain would not only destroy the Dragon Vein but also harm the health of everyone living here."
If the earlier zigzagging trenches were meant to cause gradual harm, this time, the man was aiming to take lives. His intent was malicious!
Hearing this, Commander's expression turned cold. He strode forward and kicked the man in black. "Speak, why did you do this? Who ordered you?"
"No one ordered me! I did it myself!" the man in black growled through gritted teeth.
"Bullshit!" A furious voice cut through the air, followed by a series of thuds as shovels and nails fell to the ground, startling the man.
"Who's there?" he asked, panicked.
Ancestral Master appeared, waving his hand so everyone could see him. He was livid, pointing at the objects on the ground. "You did all this by yourself? Do you think you're capable of it?"
Ten veins, ten Dragon Veins in total!
To patch up the damage, he'd sacrificed the golden light from one of his legs!
It would've been better to give it to the little chubby girl. At least she was family.
Now it was all gone, just like that.
But there was no choice--if he didn't do it, countless people would suffer.
Blame these troublemakers!
"Ancestral Master, what happened to your leg?" Zhouzhou, rubbing her sleepy eyes, wandered over. Seeing his gray leg, her eyes widened, and she instantly woke up.
She slid over to him and, with trembling hands, touched his leg. Sure enough, it was gray.
The merit had vanished.
Zhouzhou's face went pale, and she plopped down on the ground, sobbing loudly, "Why is my life so hard!"
