Chapter 180: The Identification Result
Chapter 180: The Identification Result
"You... Aiden, how could you do this to me? You told me before that you would only love me for the rest of your life, that we’d be together forever!"
"I don’t remember! I don’t remember ever saying I only loved you. The one I like, love, and want to spend the rest of my life with is Sweetie, and only her! Don’t come looking for me again!"
With that, he strode away, and after getting in his car, he dialed President Upton’s number.
"Miss Upton is in the Sinclair Tower parking garage. President Upton, please come and get her."
The call ended, and Eric Sinclair suddenly felt his head start to throb. He knew it was because Rosalie Upton’s appearance had caused a problem with his perception.
’He truly didn’t think he’d ever said he would only love Rosalie Upton for his whole life, yet at the same time, he felt like he really had been in a relationship with her. Moreover, he seemed to have promised someone he would take good care of her...’
The pain in his head intensified.
Sebastian Sinclair asked cautiously, "Sir, should we go to the hospital?"
"Can a hospital cure my headache?"
He took out his phone and started dialing Riley Perry’s number, but she rejected every call. After several attempts, he finally thought to look for Samson Sinclair’s number.
However, the call eventually went to voicemail, and Eric Sinclair slammed his palm hard against the car seat.
Sebastian Sinclair: ...’Of course it can’t.’
"Tell me, what should I do to make her forgive me?"
Sebastian Sinclair didn’t know either. He’d never been in a relationship. Besides, his boss’s situation was a complicated mess. "...It would’ve been better if you hadn’t torn up that contract, Sir."
’With the contract, she was his contractual lover, and the Young Master held all the power.’
’But who would have thought the Young Master would insist on being Miss Perry’s actual boyfriend? A real relationship is a partnership of equals. By tearing up the contract, wasn’t the Young Master just making trouble for himself?’
’And on top of that, there was the matter of his dual identity. As long as he didn’t come clean, there was no way he’d ever win Miss Perry back!’
’Not tear up the contract? No, Eric Sinclair didn’t regret ripping it up one bit!’
’How could you ask someone you truly love to be your mistress?’
’His only regret was not telling Sweetie the truth about his situation sooner!’
’He also blamed himself for insisting on testing her in the beginning. In the end, he was the one who lost his heart. And after their relationship deepened, he—this thief—didn’t dare reveal his true identity...’
"Go to The Elysian Gardens." He was going to confess everything to her. Even if she got angry, even if she might not forgive him, he didn’t want Sweetie to misunderstand him any longer.
"Right away, Sir."
...
「The Valentine Family’s residence in the military compound.」
Shortly before nine o’clock, a military vehicle pulled into the courtyard. A tall, imposing figure got out of the car. It was none other than Patriarch Valentine, Ronald Valentine.
Though he was middle-aged, with children old enough to start their own families, the years had left few marks on him. Ignoring the epaulets on his shoulders, his face looked to be in his early forties at most.
Ronald Valentine walked briskly into the living room, his guard following silently behind him.
Iris Weldon, Dawn York, and Warren Valentine were sitting stiffly on the sofa, their faces serious. As Ronald Valentine walked in, he took off his hat and hung it on the coat rack by the door. The guard, knowing the family had private matters to discuss, had already tactfully withdrawn.
"What was so urgent that you all needed me back right away?"
As a high-ranking officer, he had many responsibilities and had been away for several days testing new weaponry. He hadn’t expected his wife to start blowing up his phone after 3 p.m., followed by three calls from his daughter, and his son even taking a leave of absence. It was clearly a sign that something major had happened at home, so he had no choice but to rush back.
Now, the solemn expressions on his wife and children’s faces confirmed his suspicion: something truly major had happened.
Dawn York stood up, her high ponytail swaying, and picked up a file from the coffee table, handing it to her father. "Dad, take a look at this."
Ronald Valentine reached out and took it, but his hand trembled the moment he saw the large words "Forensic Analysis Report" printed on the cover. A faint suspicion formed in his mind. He hastily flipped through the document, searching for the conclusion:
Barring the possibilities of multiple births, close relatives, or external contamination, the results support Iris Weldon and Ronald Valentine as the biological parents of Riley Perry.
He quickly flipped back to the first page and found an unfamiliar name. "Riley Perry? Where’s her file? How did you find her?"
Even Ronald Valentine, a man who wouldn’t flinch if a mountain collapsed before him, was visibly moved at this moment. The child they had been searching for for twenty years... today, they finally had news!
A smile touched Iris Weldon’s lips. She beckoned to her husband. "Come here. Let me show you how outstanding our daughter is."
Ronald Valentine sat down beside his wife, and Iris Weldon took out her phone, showing him one video after another.
Ronald Valentine silently scrolled through the videos, his eyes filled with admiration as he watched his daughter’s various outstanding performances.
Especially after watching a video of her on a show where she outsmarted a group of swindlers, he couldn’t help but exclaim, "That’s my daughter, alright! A girl like that belongs in the military! A mind like hers should be serving the country!"
Warren Valentine couldn’t hold back at that. "Dad, let’s get a grip. We’re still just getting to know our sister. It’s not even certain if she’ll acknowledge us. And even if she does, we have to ask her if she wants to join the military. We need to respect her wishes."
Ronald Valentine: ...’Right. We haven’t even been reunited with her yet! Besides, he couldn’t bear to let his daughter suffer in the military. He had just spoken off the cuff; whenever he saw a talented kid, he instinctively wanted to recruit them for the armed forces.’
"When are you planning to reunite with her?" Ronald Valentine asked seriously, putting down the phone.
Iris Weldon replied, "Isn’t that why we called you back, to discuss this very thing?"
The family huddled together, whispering. Dawn York had limited time, so the information she could find on Riley Perry was all superficial. But one thing was very clear to all of them: Riley Perry’s adoptive parents treated her very well.
Ronald Valentine had a military-like style: direct, efficient, and to the point in both word and deed. He didn’t like to drag things out. "If we’re afraid she won’t accept us, then we’ll entice her directly.
From what I can see, she seems to like money.
Also, prepare a generous gift to thank the Rhodes Family."
Iris Weldon hadn’t expected her husband to say that. "Are you sure that will work?"
"Iris Weldon, when it comes to managing a household and raising children, I may not be your equal. But when it comes to waging war, ten of you couldn’t match me.
I know you’re going to say that reuniting with our daughter isn’t a battle, but if I treat her like an enemy commander, I could absolutely win her over in a single move!"
’Did they really think he’d watched all those videos for nothing?!’
This time, Iris Weldon didn’t argue. "Alright, we’ll do it your way."
With the matter settled, the family decided to spend the next day preparing and then set aside the entire day after to go and reunite with their daughter.
...「In a bar somewhere in Dragonspire.」
A girl who had once joined Holly Summers in hooking up with several of the bar’s wealthy young men had gone to great trouble to meet with her.
"This might be one of the last times we sisters get together. Tomorrow, I’m going back to my hometown to find an honest man and get married. SOB, SOB... I can’t believe it’s all over before my dream of becoming a star even began!"
Another girl started crying too. "Who in this circle doesn’t fool around? Why did we have to be so unlucky! My dad called and said I’ve completely disgraced the family, and that as far as they’re concerned, they don’t have a daughter anymore!"
