Chapter 327: Help each other
Chapter 327: Help each other
"Did something happen in White Sand City?" Lani asked, clearly concerned.
"This subordinate doesn’t know," the male replied, shaking his head. "The messenger refused to explain. He only said he needed to speak with the City Lord personally."
Lani turned to Nina. "We should meet with him. If they sent someone all the way here, it’s unlikely to be a minor matter."
Nina nodded. "Alright, let’s do it."
"Take us to him," Lani instructed right away.
The male immediately led them to the beastman who had come seeking aid.
When the visitor saw Nina and the masked Lex approaching alongside Lani, confusion flashed across his face.
Why was there a female here? And why was the other male wearing a mask?
He recognized Lani immediately.
"Former City Lord Lani," he greeted respectfully. "Where is your current City Lord?"
Lani gestured toward Lex.
"The current City Lord is standing right beside me. Whatever you need to say, say it to him."
The beastman stared at Lex in surprise.
This masked male was the City Lord? Why was he hiding his face then?
Still, he was in no position to ask questions. He had come here to beg for help.
Without delay, he bowed deeply, showing his respect.
"City Lord of Sea Blue City, White Sand City is under attack by a massive horde of Nether Beasts. Among them is an extraordinarily powerful leader. We cannot stop them. Countless beastmen have already been killed or wounded."
His voice trembled with urgency.
"Please send reinforcements. If possible, we also hope to invite Lord Keil to assist us. Even our former City Lord is no match for that beast."
Lani’s expression changed immediately.
"Nether Beasts?" Shock flickered across his face. "Weren’t they supposed to be extinct? How could they suddenly appear and attack White Sand City?"
The messenger shook his head, sighing heavily.
"We don’t know. They appeared without warning. Their numbers are enormous. Nothing about them looks extinct."
Lani frowned deeply.
"I’ll send scouts to investigate immediately. If everything you’ve reported is true, we’ll provide assistance."
Relief flooded the beastman’s face.
"Please hurry. We can’t hold out much longer."
He understood Lani’s caution, though. No ruler could commit forces based solely on a stranger’s testimony.
Lani immediately dispatched several warriors to accompany the messenger back to White Sand City and investigate.
After they left, Nina turned toward him, her eyebrows drawn together.
"Father, what exactly are Nether Beasts? Everyone seems extremely wary of them."
Lani’s expression turned grave.
"Nether Beasts are powerful amphibious monsters capable of surviving both on land and beneath the sea. Not only are they extraordinarily strong, but they are also notoriously difficult to kill. Years ago, they existed only in small numbers. Then they gradually disappeared, and eventually no one saw them anymore. Most people assumed they had become extinct."
A dark shadow crossed his face.
"If large populations have truly returned, they’ll pose a serious threat to all beastmen."
Nina immediately understood why.
"They prey on beastmen?"
Lani nodded.
"That is exactly why this concerns me. White Sand City is very close to Sea Blue City. If the Nether Beasts overrun them, we’ll likely be next."
White Sand City belonged to another sea clan, but that did not lessen the danger.
After a brief pause, Lani looked at Nina, hesitating a little before he asked,
"Nina, could you postpone your departure for a few days? Your strength is extraordinary. I’d like to ask for your help in eliminating the Nether Beasts."
Without hesitation, Nina agreed.
"Of course. Delaying for a few days won’t matter. I’m happy to help."
Lani and Rosen had become family to her. Besides, Sea Blue City had helped her immensely during her search for the sacred artifact. Helping them was the least she could do.
Relief immediately appeared on Lani’s face.
"Thank you, Nina. I already owe you too much."
Nina smiled. "You don’t need to thank me. We’re family, we have to help each other."
Lani nodded warmly.
"Then take Lex home and get some rest. If White Sand City confirms the situation, we’ll need to depart immediately."
His gaze drifted toward Lex.
At the moment, he was still somewhat annoyed with his son.
After all, Lex’s actions had earned him a thorough scolding from Rosen.
They were currently standing within Lex’s City Lord residence.
Lex offered no objection. To him, Nina’s palace was the only place that felt like home.
"Alright," Nina said.
Taking Lex’s hand, she led him away.
Lani returned to his own residence.
Meanwhile, Nina brought Lex directly to his room. The moment she stepped inside, she froze.
Pearls covered the floor. Hundreds of them. Perhaps thousands. They glittered everywhere like scattered stars.
"How many times did you cry?" she asked softly.
Her eyes widened in disbelief. She looked at Lex with concern.
"Are your eyes alright?"
Lex immediately became embarrassed. When he left, he had been too heartbroken to clean anything up.
Now Nina had seen everything.
She guided him to sit beside her.
"Can I see your face?"
She wanted to know exactly what had happened.
Lex immediately shook his head.
Absolutely not.
He could not bear the thought of Nina seeing him like this.
Nina sighed. "It doesn’t matter if I see it."
Her voice softened.
"I don’t dislike you. Back then, you saw me at my worst too. Did you ever dislike me?"
Lex instantly shook his head.
"Never."
The answer came so quickly that he almost stumbled over it.
Then his voice grew quieter.
"Actually... before I ever saw what you really looked like... I already liked you."
His ears gradually turned red.
At the time, he had refused to admit it even to himself.
Yet it was true.
Long before he learned the truth about her appearance, his heart had already begun falling for her.
And there had been those moments inside the illusion realm.
The memories surfaced unexpectedly.
The instant they did, heat flooded his face.
Even now, simply recalling them was enough to make his heart race uncontrollably.
