Chapter 291 - 244: Bud
Chapter 291 - 244: Bud
Feng Mountain picked up his steak knife, skillfully cut a piece of the roasted beef rib, and placed it in his mouth.
The moment the beef rib entered his mouth, his teeth were met with a chewy, collagen-rich outer layer.
Then came the tender, juicy meat fibers, which were easily sliced apart between his teeth. They mingled with the fragrant, aromatic beef tallow, instantly melting on the sides of his tongue.
The tender meat fibers were like freshly awakened Elves, dancing joyfully in his mouth and releasing their inherent, savory flavor.
The aroma of the tallow was like an elegant dancer, twirling and weaving lightly between his taste buds, filling his entire mouth with a rich, mellow taste.
Finally, a bit of the charred fat from the edge gently rolled onto the tip of his tongue.
This small piece of charred fat wasn’t bitter or pungent; instead, it offered a richer, deeper aroma.
It was like the finishing touch on the roasted beef ribs, adding a unique, charred fragrance amidst the tenderness and chewiness.
Following that, the rich, meaty flavor spread from the base of his tongue down his throat and into his stomach, like a grand parade of taste.
At that moment, Feng Mountain’s face was filled with a look of pure bliss.
It also changed some of his previous views on Alaskan cuisine. This roasted beef rib was of an exceptionally high standard, a testament to the allure of fine food.
’Of course, that doesn’t include food made by the Inuit,’ he silently added.
Feng Mountain then raised his head and looked at the waiter with sincere eyes, his gaze filled with unconcealed admiration.
"This is the most delicious barbecue I’ve ever had."
"Enjoy your meal."
Hearing this, the waiter’s face broke into a pleased and proud smile. He placed the last bacon-wrapped beef sausage and a large mug of beer on the table, then left.
What followed was a true feast.
Feng Mountain was already starving, and now, faced with a table full of sumptuous and delicious dishes, he couldn’t be bothered with anything else. He picked up his fork and dug in.
Every bite filled him with a sense of bliss.
The tender and juicy Texas-style smoked brisket, the rich and mellow roasted ribs, and the spicy, fragrant beef sausage blossomed with wonderful flavors on his taste buds, one after another.
Loki also got a piece of roast beef. He excitedly flapped his wings a few times, using his hook-like beak to tear off shreds of meat and swallow them.
Soon, the man and bird had all but devoured the food on the table.
Feng Mountain leaned back in his chair, gently patting his stomach with a satisfied expression on his face.
Just then, his phone rang.
He took it out, saw it was a call from Frank, and pressed the answer button.
"Buddy, you’re not at the hotel. Where’d you run off to?"
"I’m out having dinner."
"Which restaurant?"
"Downtown. A barbecue place called Smokehouse BBQ."
"I know that place. Wait for me."
After the call ended, Feng Mountain, who had been about to get up and leave, could only sit back down.
This simple action caught the waiter’s attention. He walked over, saw the empty plates, and asked with a smile.
"Sir, is there anything else you need?"
Feng Mountain shook his head and pointed at the messy table. "No, nothing else. Just get me another beer and clear the table, thanks!"
The waiter nodded, called a colleague over to clear the table, and brought another beer. He then stood a short distance away, his gaze sweeping over Feng Mountain from time to time.
「Ten minutes later.」
The restaurant door was pushed open, and Frank, dressed in a black trench coat, walked in. He waved off the host and entered the dining area. Seeing Feng Mountain sitting by the window, he walked straight over.
Seeing only a glass of beer on the table, he asked curiously.
"Buddy, I thought you were having dinner?"
"Lost my appetite. Just having a beer," Feng Mountain replied simply, then immediately changed the subject. "Where’s your emcee, Eva? Shouldn’t you two be having a candlelight dinner and then a... workout?"
"Don’t mention it. Eva got a last-minute call for an awards ceremony rehearsal the day after tomorrow." Frank sighed in frustration and raised his hand to signal a waiter.
"Sir, what can I get for you?" the waiter asked, approaching with a menu.
Frank didn’t look at the menu. He just said, "A lemonade and a beef burger, thanks."
"Certainly. Right away."
The waiter left and quickly returned with the food.
Frank grabbed the burger and began to wolf it down. Beside him, Feng Mountain asked curiously, "How did your client meeting go this afternoon?"
"Don’t get me started. The woman wants a divorce, but she doesn’t want to split the assets with her husband. She asked me to help her transfer them. I’m a man of integrity! How could I do something like that? It would ruin my reputation," Frank said, putting down the half-eaten burger and taking a big gulp of lemonade, his expression indignant.
"Sounds like the price wasn’t right."
Feng Mountain didn’t believe a word of Frank’s bullshit.
’As long as there was money to be made, there was nothing he wouldn’t do. To him, words like ’integrity’ and ’reputation’ were worth less than a sheet of toilet paper.’
Heh.
Frank offered a tacit smile and elegantly wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin.
"I hear Crown Territory is doing pretty well now. Got any plans? I can introduce you to the head of the state’s tourism department, help you broaden your channels for tourists."
"No need. The infrastructure at Crown Territory is still lacking. We can only handle small groups right now. Too many people would cause problems." Feng Mountain shook his head, declining the kind offer.
Just then.
A rattling sound came from above the window, as if something was sliding rapidly down the glass.
Immediately after, a dusty gray lump fell violently onto the table with a dull THUD.
The sudden commotion scared Frank badly. He shot up from his chair as if he’d been electrocuted.
