Chapter 343 - 269: The Visitor
VRRRRR!
The roar of propellers echoed through the dark sky.
As the flight lights drew closer, Feng Shan looked up, wondering to himself, ’Who would be coming to the Crown Territory at this hour? I didn’t get a call.’
With that thought, he could no longer spare a moment to continue his conversation with Xu Hongxin. He put his fingers to his lips and blew a sharp whistle.
The next moment, the dull, rhythmic sound of hooves could be heard approaching.
The CLOP CLOP CLOP echoed across the ground, followed by the sight of Cigar’s agile form galloping toward them like an arrow loosed from a bow, his posture proud and his hooves swift.
He quickly came to a stop in front of Feng Shan, tossing his magnificent head as the hot breath from his nostrils formed white plumes in the cold air.
Feng Shan vaulted nimbly onto the horse’s back, settling firmly in the saddle. From this vantage point, he projected a commanding presence.
"Miss Xu, your investment is fine in principle. Just arrange for your people to coordinate with David as soon as possible. I have to go to the airport now. Enjoy the rest of the party."
With that, he gently squeezed the horse’s flanks. Cigar understood and galloped away toward the airport, leaving only the sound of hooves fading in the distance.
「At that moment.」
Xu Hongxin watched Feng Shan’s dashing figure ride away, and she suddenly felt her face grow hot as a faint blush crept up her cheeks.
She was a little surprised herself, wondering, ’Why do I find him so incredibly masculine when he’s on a horse?’
That commanding, high-spirited posture seemed to possess a unique charm that drew her gaze, leaving her a little dazed.
Only when the sound of hooves finally faded did Xu Hongxin snap back to reality. She shook her head slightly, trying to clear the confusing thoughts from her mind.
Meanwhile, a small bush plane was landing slowly on the runway.
The plane’s propeller gradually spun to a stop, its fuselage gleaming with a metallic luster under the runway lights.
After the cabin door opened, North stepped off the plane carrying his luggage, his steps a bit tentative.
The moment his feet touched the ground, he was stunned by the sight before him. His eyes widened as he scanned his surroundings.
He couldn’t believe that such an advanced runway guidance light system existed here in the remote Far North Tundra.
"Sir, I’m heading back right away. Do you need me to wait for you?" the pilot shouted to North, sliding open the cockpit window and leaning out.
North quickly waved him off. "No, thanks. I’ll be staying here for a few days."
"God bless you. Coming to the Tundra in winter is not a good choice."
In the time it took to say those few words, the biting wind felt like a knife cutting across the pilot’s face. He muttered something, quickly closed the window, started the engine, and took off again into the black sky.
North was left all alone on the runway.
An eerie silence surrounded him, broken only by the howling wind that tore across the open space like a tireless beast.
Since the range of the tribe’s Fire Seed didn’t extend to the airport runway, the temperature was nearly forty degrees below zero.
Every wisp of air felt like an ice needle, piercing straight to the bone.
This was North’s first time setting foot on the Far North Tundra, and the scene before him was completely different from what he had imagined.
He had expected it to be cold, but not this severe. Reality had dealt him a heavy blow.
The wind was bone-chillingly fierce, like countless sharp little knives scraping mercilessly across his face and hands.
Even though he had wrapped his clothes tightly around himself, the cold still managed to seep through the layers of fabric and invade his body.
He walked alone down the runway, carrying his luggage.
Every step felt like it took all the strength he had.
His heavy footsteps left a trail of deep prints in the snow, but they were quickly covered by freshly falling flakes.
A wave of desolation washed over him, and North’s mood grew heavier.
He began to lose faith in his expedition, the hope he had once held dwindling with each passing moment.
In a place this cold, with such a harsh environment, the chances of those tigers and parrots surviving were incredibly slim.
North couldn’t help but shake his head and sigh as he struggled onward.
He thought to himself, ’Maybe I shouldn’t have come this time.’
But what was done was done. He could only brace himself and press forward. He had to find Feng Shan as soon as possible, or he would freeze to death out here.
CLOP CLOP CLOP!!
The sound of hooves rang out, crisp and rhythmic.
It was jarringly out of place on the silent, frigid airport runway.
North couldn’t help but look toward the sound, a surge of joyful surprise in his heart.
After all, on the desolate, bone-chilling Far North Tundra, the sound of hooves meant someone was coming.
’Who could it be?’
He eagerly peered in the direction of the sound.
As Feng Shan rode Cigar out of the range of the tribe’s Fire Seed, the sudden drop in temperature washed over them like a surging tide.
Cigar, who had just been in a relatively warmer environment, was suddenly unable to adapt.
His body trembled slightly, and his hooves unconsciously slowed their pace.
The hot breath puffing from his nostrils instantly condensed into white plumes of mist in the extremely cold air, drifting away continuously.
Fortunately, thanks to the Beast Taming Technique and the protection of the Fire Seed over the past few days, Cigar’s physical constitution was much stronger than before, and his resistance to the cold had also increased significantly.
Cigar quickly steadied himself, adjusted, and rallied his spirits, continuing to carry Feng Shan forward through the ice and snow.
His hooves kicked up flurries of snow that danced in the air behind him.
It was as if he and Feng Shan were cloaked in white.
By the time Feng Shan rode Cigar to the airport, he could see North’s lonely figure from a distance.
Amidst the swirling wind and snow, North looked especially pitiful, standing there all alone like a poor soul forgotten by the world.
