Invincible through Touching Corpses

Chapter 317: Begin the Action

Chapter 317: Begin the Action

After explaining the necessary details to Zhang Yue, Lin Xinghai immediately went to make his preparations.

As he watched Lin Xinghai walk away, Zhang Yue had a complicated look in his eyes.

To be frank, the military sub-base here in Guanghan City was more than adequate for defense, but its offensive capabilities were sorely lacking.

In a little over half a month, Lin Xinghai would be leaving the Star Shield Shelter for East Sea Base. If they encountered this kind of trouble again, they would have no choice but to take a passive beating.

For a moment, Zhang Yue even considered petitioning his superiors to find a way to keep Lin Xinghai.

But he quickly shook his head. ’In the end, it’s just that our Star Shield Shelter is too weak.’

If this were one of the larger bases, with an army of hundreds of thousands, they could wipe out every Zombie in Guanghan City, provided they were willing to pay the price. Then, it wouldn’t matter how much of a fuss those Mutated Zombies kicked up.

Shaking off these unrealistic ideas, Zhang Yue began to make arrangements.

Right now, his top priority was ensuring the sub-base’s security. Only then could they provide a continuous stream of supplies to the Shelter for its expansion.

Of course, Lin Xinghai had no idea what was going through Zhang Yue’s mind. He went to the section of the wall defended by the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps, exchanged greetings with Fang Tianhe and the others, then promptly piloted his Rapid Mecha away.

Lin Xinghai quickly slipped away from the other side of the sub-base, leaving quietly before the Zombie horde arrived.

After all, once the horde arrived, half a million Zombies would quickly surround the entire sub-base. If he tried to leave then, any commotion he made might alert the "Hunters".

After leaving the sub-base, Lin Xinghai headed directly for an outpost one kilometer away.

According to his plan, he would wait here until the Zombie horde attacked before beginning his operation.

Upon his arrival, the squad stationed at the outpost was surprised but also extremely courteous, even inviting Lin Xinghai to come down and rest for a bit.

However, Lin Xinghai declined with a smile. The Zombie horde was about to descend upon them; he was in no mood to rest.

He switched his Mecha to standby mode. After waiting quietly for about five minutes, a thunderous roar echoed from the distance.

Clearly, the sub-base had officially engaged the Zombie horde.

But even as the Zombie horde began its assault, Lin Xinghai remained motionless. He waited, monitoring the battlefield updates being fed to him by the intel team.

An army of half a million Zombies. Though he acted unconcerned, it was an undeniably massive number.

As the horde advanced, it stretched out, straggling for nearly ten kilometers.

So Lin Xinghai had to wait for the rear of the horde to move up and join the attack on the base.

At that point, the five "Hunters" directing the battle would effectively be at the rear of the horde. No longer surrounded by a sea of Zombies, their perimeter of awareness would be reduced, creating the best opportunity for Lin Xinghai to approach.

He waited for another fifteen full minutes.

Only then did the rear of the Zombie horde finally surge past the five "Hunters" to attack the sub-base.

Without hesitation, Lin Xinghai set out.

He hadn’t been idle during those fifteen minutes. He had been constantly calculating the optimal route of approach.

The choice of route was arguably the key to the entire operation’s success.

Of course, he hadn’t chosen his route based on ease of travel or safety.

Instead, he had plotted a course through the "Hunters’" blind spots, based on their positions.

Fortunately, the buildings in Guanghan City were still relatively intact. Thanks to their cover, his concealment wouldn’t be a major issue, at least in the initial stages of his advance.

It would get trickier later, though. The closer he got, the higher the chances of being discovered.

Regardless, Lin Xinghai used his system to run simulations and finally settled on a route.

His Mecha surged forward. At the same time, he activated his Communication Device and contacted Zhang Yue.

"Old Zhang, I’m on the move. I should reach my destination in about three to four minutes. Have the artillery squads increase their rate of fire to draw the ’Hunters’’ attention," Lin Xinghai said.

Everyone knew that Mutated Zombies had an extremely keen Perception Power for danger.

But just how keen was a "Hunter’s" sense of danger?

How close could a Mecha get before it triggered that sense of danger?

They had no data on any of this.

So, to be safe, Lin Xinghai had Zhang Yue’s forces begin their part of the plan the moment he started moving.

That way, even if the Mutated Zombies sensed danger, they would assume it was coming from the sub-base.

"Got it!" Zhang Yue agreed at once, wasting no words.

...

BOOM! RUMBLE!

On Zhang Yue’s command, several artillery squads instantly intensified their barrage. In addition to increasing their firepower, they also expanded their firing range.

Previously, their shells had been landing just at the foot of the wall to maximize casualties among the climbing Zombies.

Now, their bombardment covered the area extending one hundred meters out from the wall.

With each thundering explosion, gaping holes were blasted into the dense Zombie horde, and the kill count climbed rapidly.

Before, nearly ninety percent of the Zombies would reach the base of the wall, where they would be gunned down. But now, under this heavy bombardment, less than half of them even made it that far.

This scene left the Mercenaries fighting on the front lines a little baffled.

’Things were going fine, so what’s with the sudden change?’

They all knew that bombardment, whether by Grenade Cannon or Mortar, was far more expensive than simply using bullets to kill Zombies.

Therefore, unless it was a true crisis, the military always preferred to rely on bullets.

Of course, while the Mercenaries were confused, Zhang Yue had no time to explain.

According to the plan he and Lin Xinghai had arranged, he would extend the artillery’s coverage forward by another one hundred meters every minute.

As long as the distant "Hunters" weren’t blind, they were guaranteed to notice such a conspicuous change.

It would definitely catch their attention, but it wouldn’t be enough to scare them off completely.

After all, with a full five kilometers separating them, extending the bombardment range by a few hundred meters was nothing to be alarmed about.

...

Seeing that Zhang Yue’s side had begun drawing the "Hunters’" attention, Lin Xinghai held nothing back, unleashing his Superpower at full strength.

The Speed Mecha had been upgraded a second time with military-grade equipment, bringing its base Speed to 1300 points. Under the additional 300% boost from Lin Xinghai’s Superpower, its Speed instantly skyrocketed to 5200 points.
