Chapter 300 First Blood
Chapter 300 First Blood
Tan Yu scratched his head, not angry at all: "Playing games is fine! I'm really good at games! I'll start a live stream, I guarantee it'll be a huge hit!"
"You should learn how to play League of Legends first," Lu Ran said bluntly.
"Tch, don't underestimate me." Tan Yu snorted defiantly. "Brother Lu, you wait and see, I'll prove you right away."
Lu Ran smiled, ignored him, and continued to explain the remaining matters.
The meeting lasted for another half hour, going over every detail of the development of League of Legends—technical architecture, art resources, server deployment, testing plans, launch procedures, and contingency plans—with each link assigned to specific people and each time point strictly controlled.
It was almost noon when the meeting ended.
Old Wang hurriedly returned to his workstation with the technical department staff, while Xiao Yang and several young women from the operations department jogged away with their documents. Old Zhao was still on the phone, his voice fading into the distance.
Only Lu Ran, Zhou Mingzhe, and Tan Yu remained in the conference room.
"Brother Lu, can we play now?" Tan Yu rubbed his hands together, his eyes shining.
Lu Ran glanced at Zhou Mingzhe, who shrugged: "The development environment is already set up. Let Lao Wang take him to try it out."
"Let's go, let's go!" Tan Yu stood up, pushed Lu Ran's wheelchair, and headed out. "Brother Wang! Brother Wang! Wait for me!"
Old Wang turned around at the end of the corridor and saw Tan Yu pushing Lu Ran towards them. Startled, he quickly stepped aside, saying, "Slow down! Don't push President Lu to the ground!"
"It's okay, it's okay, I'm perfectly fine!" Tan Yu shouted as he pushed, "Brother Wang, which computer does League of Legends run on? I want to play it! I want to play it right now!"
Old Wang shook his head helplessly and led them into the development room of the technology department.
The development room was large, with monitors on three walls and rows of computer desks in the middle. Several key members of the technical department were sitting in front of their computers, their fingers flying across the keyboards, and dense lines of code scrolling down the screen like a waterfall.
Old Wang led them to the computer at the very back, where a test version of "League of Legends" was already open on the screen.
"This is the current development version," Lao Wang said, pointing to the screen. "Only a dozen or so heroes have been implemented. The basic map mechanics are working, but there are still some details to be tweaked. Give it a try, and let me know if you have any questions."
Tan Yu plopped down in front of the computer, and the moment he picked up the mouse, he transformed completely. His posture and aura exuded the demeanor of a true gaming master.
Lu Ran sat next to him, looking at his profile, and suddenly felt that when this kid got serious, he actually looked pretty convincing.
"Hey, Brother Lu, how do I start this game?" Tan Yu scratched his head.
Lu Ran rolled her eyes at him. He could pretend to be an expert if he didn't speak, but once he opened his mouth, his true colors were revealed.
Lu Ran clicked on the link for him and then logged him in using an internal account.
I chose the simplest AI mode, since there are no MOBA games like this in this world yet, and most people would be completely confused if they played it for the first time.
Tan Yu stared at the hero list on the screen, his eyes practically glued to the monitor.
"Just pick anything," Lu Ran said. "It's my first time playing, so I'll choose something easy. Garen is a good choice."
"Garen? The Might of Demacia?"
"right."
Tan Yu chose Garen without hesitation and entered the game.
After the loading screen finished, Tan Yu's Garen was standing in the blue team's fountain.
He paused for a few seconds, then asked, "How...how do you play this game?"
Lu Ran couldn't help but laugh: "See the minimap? There are three lanes on it. Choose one to go. Someone on the other side will be laning against you. Your job is to farm, kill, and push towers."
"It's that simple?"
"It's easier said than done," Lu Ran said. "Buy some equipment first, then head out."
Tan Yu rummaged through the shop for a long time, and finally, with Lu Ran's guidance, bought a pair of straw sandals and a few bottles of red potion. Then he controlled Garen to run to the lane.
"Which way?" he asked.
"Top lane," Lu Ran said. "Generally speaking, top lane is a solo lane, suitable for tanky heroes like Garen."
Tan Yu nodded and controlled Garen to stagger towards the top lane.
Once online, there was already an Ashe standing on the other side.
"An archer?" Tan Yu chuckled. "Pretty fragile, huh? Watch me go and spin her!"
He was about to rush forward when Lu Ran grabbed him and stopped him.
"Don't rush. Finish off the enemy first, save up gold. Fight later when you've leveled up."
What does "finishing off" mean?
"It's about hitting the minion with the last hit when it's low on health. That's how you get the gold."
Tan Yu nodded as if he understood, and began to focus on finishing off the enemy.
But his technique was too clumsy; he either attacked too early or too late, and it took him ages to get three or four last hits.
The enemy Ashe was farming quite well, occasionally shooting him with a couple of arrows, which really annoyed him.
"That damn archer!" Tan Yu gritted his teeth. "Wait until I'm high enough level, then I'll teach you a lesson!"
By the time he reached level three, Tan Yu finally couldn't hold back any longer.
He saw that the enemy Ashe was positioned too far forward, so he immediately silenced her with his Q skill, then activated his E skill and spun around, followed by Ignite. The whole sequence was incredibly smooth—although he himself didn't even know what he was pressing.
Ashe's health was dropping rapidly, and Tan Yu shouted excitedly, "We're going to die! We're going to die!"
As a result, Ashe flashed away, and Tan Yu's Garen was too slow to flash and almost failed to catch up. He watched helplessly as Ashe escaped back to the tower with a sliver of health, while he himself was killed by the tower.
"So close!" Tan Yu slammed his hand on the table. "Just one step away!"
"If you had activated W to reduce damage first, you wouldn't have lost so much health," Lu Ran said from the side. "And you used Ignite too early. If you had waited until she used Flash before using Ignite, she would have died."
Tan Yu retorted defiantly, "Let's go again! I refuse to believe I can't beat an archer!"
After being resurrected, he went back online.
This time he was smarter. He didn't rush in to fight, but instead slowly finished off enemies and waited for his equipment to be acquired.
When he reached level six, he finally saved up enough money to go back to town and buy a greatsword.
"Is it okay now?" he asked.
"You can give it a try," Lu Ran said, "but don't get carried away. If you can't win, run away."
Tan Yu nodded and controlled Garen to return to the online lane.
The opposing AI Ashe is also level 6, and her equipment isn't bad either.
The two faced off online for a while. Tan Yu seized an opportunity, using his Q skill to charge in, followed by his E skill in a spinning motion, and then his ultimate, Demacian Justice, to strike down—
Ashe's health bar instantly dropped to zero, but she used Sprint to escape.
This time, Tan Yu was prepared. He sprinted after her and finished her off with a basic attack.
"First Blood!"
