Chapter 6 Li Wei's Boss
Chapter 6 Li Wei's Boss
Li Wei, who was already standing at his doorstep, took out his phone and glanced at it.
The screen displayed the nickname "idiot," but Li Wei's address after entering the room and pressing the answer button was much more polite.
"Hello, boss. What can I do for you? If you dare make me go back to work overtime, I'll shoot your ass raw."
"I don't care when you started getting interested in my ass, I only care about how much trouble you've caused the company—do you think you look really cool on TV?"
Li Wei paused for a moment as he took off his shoes upon entering the room.
After a brief but serious recollection of the television footage, Li Wei gave what he considered to be a very fair assessment.
"I am very photogenic. Today, someone mistook me for a TV star."
"..."
When Li Wei changed into slippers and went inside, the person opposite him remained silent.
It wasn't until Li Wei entered the bedroom to change into his pajamas that the other side finally responded.
"Okay, I have to admit, the problem is when I try to reason with you."
"Now, let me explain the two reasons why I haven't left work yet."
"First, the FBI asked me for your paper file, and I gave it to them. Now, I want you to tell me that you were just bragging on camera, and that you didn't actually become a terrorist."
"Secondly, because of your inappropriate words and actions, the company's public image has been severely damaged, to the point that our largest customer, 'Thor Technologies,' is worried that its company will be negatively affected and has decided to terminate its contract with the company."
There was a moment's pause on the other end, but they quickly picked up where they left off.
"You know, the thing those arms dealers fear most is being associated with the word 'terrorist,' because it will cause their stock prices to plummet."
As someone with "peacekeeping" experience, Li Wei knows those arms dealers all too well.
Those arms dealers can do certain things, but they can't talk about them, much less let anyone find out.
Therefore, Li Wei did not dwell on this issue, but instead explained the FBI investigation into him.
"The 'Li Wei Gang' is not a terrorist organization, just a gang, and currently it only consists of me. If you are interested in joining, considering our past relationship, which wasn't particularly pleasant but not too problematic, I can appoint you as the second-in-command."
"Listen up! Levi! I don't fucking care if you're a terrorist! I only care about my money! Now! Tell me! What the hell did you do to deserve this?!"
The boss got anxious, and Li Wei very considerately comforted him.
"Wesker, I just robbed a bank. And in fact, nobody knows."
"..."
Silence fell again on the other end of the phone.
It wasn't until Li Wei changed into his "ugly fish" pajamas and was about to crawl into bed that Wesker's somewhat bewildered voice came from the other end of the phone.
"What do you mean you 'just' robbed a bank? And what do you mean you 'didn't get caught'? Don't tell me the tumor in your brain mutated and awakened some kind of superpower!"
Li Wei couldn't help but sigh.
"So, Wesker, are you planning to change direction and move into Hollywood?"
That's why he labeled Wesker as "idiot".
Because sometimes, this "pre-delta" is really "idiotic".
It was only then that Wesker suddenly realized that he had been led into a logical trap by Levi again, and was trying to understand Levi's thought process.
However, Wesker thinks it's normal to fall behind, and it's abnormal to fall behind!
So he stopped hesitating and directly stated his purpose.
"Alright, let's get down to business. I have a commission I can only handle, and the pay is very generous. Out of basic courtesy, help me complete it and recoup some of my losses. Your usual 30% cut, is that alright?"
"There's a problem, I don't want to do it."
Li Wei, who was already covered with a blanket, simply refused.
"You're fucking crazy..."
Before Wesker could finish swearing, Levi hung up the phone, lay down on the bed, and closed his eyes.
Soon, soft snoring gradually began to rise.
Then, Li Wei had a dream.
In his dream, he returned to that chaotic battlefield.
But this time, he was different.
Instead of handing over the terrorists who had brutally murdered his comrades to the International Criminal Court, he raised his hand and shot the bastard's head into a rotten watermelon.
Faced with those self-important bastards who made all sorts of unreasonable demands, even asking for cold drinks, Li Wei didn't silently endure the curses. Instead, he kicked them off the bus and left them to fend for themselves.
But what couldn't be changed was that he was once again trapped in that abandoned village in the desert. He was the only survivor of the entire tactical squad, and he had to survive by scavenging, eating, and using garbage.
What was even more despairing was that after holding out for half a month, the promised reinforcements failed to arrive as scheduled. What he received was only terrorist missiles.
"Terrorists have missiles? Does that even make sense?!"
Li Wei awoke abruptly amidst astonished curses.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The sudden sound startled Li Wei. Half-asleep, he thought a missile had exploded next to him.
However, as the sound rang out again, he realized that some bastard was banging on his door!
He glanced at the alarm clock on the bedside table.
03: 45.
This string of numbers brought Li Wei's dissatisfaction to its peak.
He wasn't even wearing slippers; he walked barefoot on the cold ground, stormed to the front door, flung it open, and began to question them.
"Wesker! You know your behavior is very rude..."
"Li Wei, I'm bankrupt."
As Levi expected, Wesker was standing outside the door, but his words were completely unexpected.
At this point, Li Wei felt that, from the perspective of an "acquaintance," if he continued to dwell on Wesker's politeness, it would make him seem rather impolite.
But only there.
After all, their relationship was just that of "acquaintances".
Therefore, Levi did not let Wesker in, but instead asked a question with considerable caution.
"You're not trying to morally blackmail me into taking that job for you, are you?"
"To hell with that rich bumpkin! I have more important things to do!"
Wesker argued vehemently, then rummaged through his briefcase while pressing for answers.
"I came to ask you about the matter of the second-in-command of the 'Li Wei Gang'... is it still valid?"
After saying that, Wesker handed a thick stack of documents to Li Wei.
"That's a really funny joke."
Li Wei smiled and closed the door.
Just as the door was about to close, a stack of documents was stuffed into the crack in the door, blocking the lock from engaging.
Wesker's bloodshot eye peered through the crack in the door, his voice like a ghost reaching into Levi's ears.
"I didn't sleep all night. More than a dozen clients canceled their contracts, the bank withdrew its loans, I drove for an hour across the entire city, spent an hour and a half doing mental preparation downstairs, smoked two packs of cigarettes, and finally decided to come up to your door at four in the morning to knock on your door, wanting to ask you for a job, because I really have nowhere else to turn."
Wesker paused for a moment, then shoved his hand through the crack in the door, not caring whether Levi would slam the door shut and break his fingers.
Then, he asked Li Wei a question in return.
"Do you think I did all this just to play a joke on you?"
