Chapter 74 Gregory
Chapter 74 Gregory
After Levi and his group set off, Thomas used three phone calls and three layers of connections to find out Gregory's law firm and residence.
It only took less than ten minutes in total.
In fact, Thomas spent most of the time exchanging pleasantries with the person opposite him.
Putting aside the polite words, the whole process actually only took about a minute.
Li Wei found this very strange.
"Is this what they call a 'circle'? By the way, why didn't you do what you did before—make a phone call and send someone to investigate?"
Thomas held his phone, looking up publicly available cases handled by Gregory while answering Levi's questions.
"I guess so, since I studied law and know some people in the legal profession. But essentially, relationships between anyone can usually be traced through three layers of diffusion. It's just that most people aren't clear about the specific directions of this diffusion."
"As for why we didn't send anyone to investigate, it's mainly because this search for Gregory is a relatively vague task, while previous ones only had specific designated information or data."
"Information is inevitably distorted during the transmission between people, which is determined by human consciousness and logic."
"Therefore, I need to obtain 'first-hand' information as much as possible."
Li Wei pondered for a moment and then understood.
"Is this what 'elite thinking' is?"
Upon hearing Li Wei's remarks, Thomas immediately understood the hidden meaning in his words.
"The essence of 'elite thinking' is just a way of thinking that leverages information advantage. It's nothing special, let alone right or wrong."
"The problem lies in their self-righteous sense of superiority."
"Like the Revival Society?"
Li Wei picked up the conversation and said this.
Thomas nodded.
Li Wei, who had been staring straight ahead, blinked.
"Thomas, I think you're underestimating me."
"It's not that I'm underestimating you, but I'm worried that you'll fall into a cognitive trap and become an 'anti-intellectual' person."
"After all, you are very capable, and if you go down the wrong path, it will bring great consequences..."
Thomas carefully considered his words.
"Hmm... 'Destructive power'."
I'll take that as a compliment.
Li Wei said something without looking to the side.
Thomas nodded.
"That's possible, although I feel I'm just stating a possibility based on facts."
As they spoke, the two arrived at the street opposite Gregory's apartment building.
It's not exactly a luxury building, but it has everything you need: Mediterranean Revival architecture, readily visible surveillance cameras, and strict access control.
Li Wei found a secluded spot to park the car and prepared to get out.
Thomas looked puzzled.
"Why not just drive right in?"
Li Wei paused for a moment as he pushed open the car door.
He turned around, quite surprised.
"You own property here?"
"Who told you that you can't get in if you're not a resident? I just need to look like a resident here."
Thomas's words immediately amused Levi.
Without saying a word, he closed the car door and drove off to the apartment building's security gate.
The license plate scanned the access control camera, but the gate and railings remained unmoved as expected.
"Shall we press the whistle?"
Li Wei asked Thomas, who was in the passenger seat.
"Press, and press hard and repeatedly."
"You need to project an image of being both anxious and impatient."
After listening to Thomas, the "director," explain the play to him, Li Wei imagined the current situation as a battlefield scene.
On one occasion, due to the busy schedule at headquarters, which prevented them from providing air supply support in the short term, he had to take a few people and drive several vehicles from the team to the quarantined safe zone to collect relief supplies for the disaster victims.
As a result, they were blocked by those idiots in the Indian peacekeeping force. They completely disregarded the peacekeeping forces from other countries that were arriving later. For their own convenience, they drove their vehicles directly to the supply station and lined up in a row, blocking the movement of the other countries' peacekeeping forces.
Moreover, those idiots completely disregarded the issue of area division and whether the supplies belonged to them. In order to be lazy and save effort, they simply carried the supplies from the nearest location, making a mess of the entire supply station.
The mere thought of this past incident ignited Li Wei's anger.
He slammed his fist heavily on the steering wheel.
"Beep—!"
As if sensing Li Wei's anger, the car horn emitted a long blare!
Li Wei still felt unsatisfied, so he rolled down the car window, stuck his head out, and started cursing.
"Idiot! Open the door!"
The security guard in the booth immediately pulled up the barrier, while Thomas casually pulled out a business card and handed it over.
The security guard immediately came out of the guard booth, took the business card with both hands, and asked questions with a mixture of respect and trepidation.
"Sir, I'm sorry to have taken up your time. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
Thomas smiled and shook his head.
"I should be apologizing. My new driver has a bit of a temper and has caused you trouble."
"This is my business card. If you have any legal questions in the future, you can call the number on this page for free consultation."
The security guard immediately expressed his gratitude profusely.
And so, they drove in without any trouble.
After parking the car in the public parking area, Li Wei raised an eyebrow at Thomas.
"How was it? My acting wasn't bad, was it?"
Thomas gave a thumbs up.
"I believe that the security guard is now standing in the guard booth, thanking me for my business card for a couple of words before throwing it into the trash can."
"And your acting skills will leave a deep impression on him, so much so that he will curse you a couple of times whenever he thinks about it late at night."
Li Wei glanced at Thomas.
"So, are you getting revenge for me dragging you down from the 48th floor?"
Thomas's two little mustaches twitched.
"you guess?"
Instead of answering directly, he opened the passenger door and got out.
He moved so quickly that Li Wei's light punch missed its mark.
Thomas has really become cunning...
But this is a good thing.
Li Wei smiled and got out of the car as well.
Soon, the two arrived at Gregory's apartment.
"Ding ding."
Thomas knocked gently on the door very politely.
Then, the two waited at the door for a full minute, but no one responded.
"Is the person not home?"
Li Wei asked Thomas a question.
"Won't."
Thomas answered confidently.
"I asked, and Gregory goes back to his apartment for a nap every day at this time."
"He's been in Miami for three years and has never changed this habit; many people know that."
"Do many people know this?"
Li Wei repeated the sentence, then immediately drew his gun and cocked it with a "clack".
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Three gunshots rang out, the electronic lock was destroyed, and Li Wei kicked the door open.
Then he saw a man lying on the carpet with bulging eyes and purple lips.
