Chapter 6 Foreseeing Danger
Chapter 6 Foreseeing Danger
The old city area of Chengbei is located in the old city district. In recent years, due to the large-scale development in the eastern part of the city, many young people have moved there to settle down. As a result, the supporting facilities in the north of the city have begun to decline, and currently only some elderly people and migrant workers still remain there.
There are no large hospitals in the north of the city, only a few community health clinics. When the elderly get sick, they have to take a long time to get to a big hospital for treatment. It's not that they don't want to move, but that they are waiting for the demolition.
About 40 meters away from a very dilapidated bungalow, Group 5, consisting of four people, was giving a pre-battle briefing.
"The intelligence department is very certain that it's this house over there. The owner moved abroad years ago, and the house has been vacant and never rented out. In the past few days, some residents have reported that people are frequently seen entering and leaving the house at night, and occasionally lights can be seen inside. Just now, the intelligence department contacted me. There are about 7-8 people in the house. Several of them were captured on surveillance cameras when they entered and left this street, and it has been confirmed that they are Lao Yuan's men. Therefore, they analyze that there is a high probability that Lao Yuan is here." The fat man reported to Sun Tiemei while flipping through his notes.
"Then proceed according to the plan from this morning. You have one minute to get to your positions and wait for my orders." Sun Tiemei glanced at Chen Shi. "Take detailed notes, there can be no mistakes." Chen Shi instantly felt that he was somewhat useful.
1 minute later.
"Chang Biao is in position. Over."
"Pang Daqiang is in position, all done."
"Chen Shi is in position, behind a forklift. Over."
There was a moment of silence on the call channel. Pang Daqiang, suppressing a laugh, said, "Understood."
Chen Shi hid himself very well. He lay down next to the forklift tire, using the tire to cover his body, and then somehow got hold of an old blanket to cover himself. And you know what? When the lights were off, from a distance he looked like a pile of discarded garbage, perfectly blending into the darkness.
He took out a pen and notebook and wrote down the first entry of the first operation.
"April 12th, Thursday, the weather is a bit cold," he thought for a moment and decided that he didn't need to write the weather, so he crossed out the words "the weather is a bit cold".
"Action!" Sun Tiemei's clear voice pierced the night sky.
Through the forklift chassis, Chen Shi saw Chang Biao charging towards the bungalow like an enraged lion.
Chen Shi had seen Chang Biao's combat data; after the kinetic energy burst, his strength and speed could instantly increase sevenfold. But that was only the data he had seen; now he was seeing the actual situation.
The door to the bungalow wasn't smashed open; it shattered instantly, sending wood chips, rivets, and the lock flying in all directions, striking obstacles with heavy thuds. Chen Shi, lying prone forty meters away, could still feel the vibrations in the air.
Chang Biao emerged from the dust and smoke into the doorway, whereupon two men in black wielding machetes rushed at him. Chang Biao swiftly reached out his left hand, pressed down on one of the men's foreheads, and pinned him to the wall. He then dodged and bent down, grabbing the other man by the ankle with his right hand, lifting him up, and slamming him heavily to the ground.
It only took 3 seconds from breaking down the door to taking down the two men. Chen Shi wrote only one word and the battle was over. Chang Biao was as fierce as fire in battle.
Chen Shi, watching from behind, felt a chill run down his spine, his mind replaying the phrase, "Why did you ask?"
He really wanted to describe the battle clearly, but firstly, the battle was too fast for him to see clearly, and secondly, his vocabulary was limited, so he only wrote one sentence: "Brother Biao is awesome, he cleared the field in 3 seconds."
At the back door of the bungalow, four of Lao Yuan's men were running out. Fatty was standing there, wearing heavy armor, and in the moonlight, he looked like he had grown a lot bigger.
One of the henchmen had just run out when the fat man shoved him with both hands, sending him flying backwards much faster than when he ran out. Another tried to slip away to the side, but before the fat man could move, he grabbed the man's belt and threw him back.
The remaining two noticed. If they didn't deal with the fat man together, none of them could escape. They exchanged a glance, each pulled out a machete, and charged at the fat man. The fat man seemed hesitant; he twisted his body, not using his body to block the blade, but instead bringing his face close. Two clangs were heard, and the fat man was unharmed except for two white marks on his face.
The two men were terrified and dropped their knives to run, but before they could take two steps, the fat man grabbed them by the neck. With a little force, they both immediately passed out.
Throughout the entire process, the fat man's feet did not move an inch.
This was the first time Chen Shi had ever seen Fatty in combat. Shocked, he quickly jotted down in his notebook: "Pang Daqiang entered the fray, the knife was ineffective, his hand speed was very fast, but he was worried about his clothes, so he used his face to block the knife." After writing that, he felt it was inappropriate and crossed out the words "worried about his clothes." This record was for archiving, after all, and he understood Fatty. He knew that Fatty wasn't afraid of his clothes being damaged, but rather that his wife would worry if his clothes were torn, and he was very afraid of his wife worrying.
The fat man has a warm heart.
Just then, the smoke and dust emanating from the entire bungalow stopped instantly. The dust and wood chips seemed to feel an immense gravity and fell straight to the ground.
Chen Shi saw ice flowers blooming on the walls of the house. Sun Tiemei entered the scene, and the ice spread outward from Sun Tiemei as the center, like an invisible hand spreading ice cloth on the ground.
The men inside the room were completely frozen in the low temperature. Anyone still holding a weapon had it stuck to their skin and couldn't be pried off.
Chen Shi recalled what Fatty had said about Sun Tiemei: "Don't stand alone with her in a space." At the time, he thought it was an exaggerated rhetoric, but it turned out to be really that terrifying. She had created a small frozen domain, and within her domain, she could even prevent any living thing from surviving.
"Wherever the team leader goes, nothing grows." Chen Shi's summary is very accurate.
Chang Biao checked the men on the ground one by one. Some of them were already erect. Of the remaining three, two had already fainted, and only one was still conscious, but he kept muttering nonsense like, "Big brother, I was wrong" and "Please don't hit me."
Chang Biao and the fat man exchanged a glance. "He's not here?"
The fat man picked up the rambling subordinate and asked, "Where's Lao Yuan?"
But the man was still repenting when the fat man slapped him across the face, and only then did the man shut up.
Where's your boss?
"The boss is smoking, needs to go to the bathroom, that's all." This guy's mind was clearly not fully clear, and what he said was incoherent.
Chen Shi ran over and carefully examined the ground. There was a half-smoked cigarette frozen on the ground. The cigarette was still quite long and hadn't been finished. He hadn't even made any effort to extinguish it, like stomping on it or anything; it was just left on the ground.
This indicates that the target was in a panic when leaving and didn't have time. However, it's impossible for Group Five to have alerted the people inside before their operation; otherwise, the others would have already run away.
The fat man said, "It took us less than five minutes from breaking down the door to taking control of everyone here. There's no way he could have run away when we stormed in, because we blocked all the exits."
Chang Biao thought for a moment: "So, that means he escaped before we even took action?"
"Precognitive ability," Sun Tiemei said, looking at the cigarette butts on the ground. "He has the ability to foresee danger, to sense danger approaching in advance. That explains it."
Fatty: "Damn, I was wondering why Group Six was so useless this time. Turns out this guy knew in advance that someone was coming to arrest him."
"Old Yuan has been in the underworld for many years, but we've always had a very limited understanding of his situation because he's never been caught."
"Team leader, what do we do now?"
"Let's go back first."
The people in the car remained silent. Chang Biao buried his head in his knees, and the fat man didn't say a word the whole time. When the car stopped at a red light, he slammed his hand on the steering wheel while cursing under his breath.
"Then how can we catch them? They can predict every time. As soon as our people get close, they know it. We can't catch them at all. Predicting is like cheating."
Chen Shi looked at everyone and felt bad too. He could sense their frustration. In Group Five, Fatty was always cheerful and never really got angry with anyone. Brother Biao had always been very kind to him; before they set off, he had even helped Chen Shi put on his protective suit.
Although the team leader was cold and aloof, she was protective of her own. During the second test, her words, "You're already part of Team Five," were deeply etched into Chen Shi's heart.
From the day the report was published, Chen Shi had always considered himself an unlucky guy who had been inexplicably shoved into Group Five and encountered a group of strange teammates. Every day, all he wanted to do was survive and remain invisible among these S-level and B-level members. He always considered himself an outsider, but Group Five didn't.
Sun Tiemei didn't abandon him just because he was an F-rank. Chang Biao cared about him, shared his innermost thoughts with him, and cheered him on at the test site. Although these weren't things he wanted, it was undeniable that this was the kindest thing Brother Biao could do. And then there was Fatty. Although he often mocked him and warned him not to join Group Five, he actually came. Fatty never said "you don't deserve Group Five," not even the slightest hint.
They never treated Chen Shi as an outsider from the beginning; it was he who was being distant.
He cleared his throat, which the fat man heard in the rearview mirror. He turned to look at Chen Shi, wondering what this kid was up to.
"Team Leader"
"Um?"
"When I interrogated Wei Sheng, I didn't use any interrogation techniques at all. I just chatted with him. I talked to him about ivy and the noodle shop he used to own, and then he told me everything on his own."
He paused here, noticing the fat man's eyes looking at him in the rearview mirror.
"Old Yuan's precognition is a passive skill. He can predict kinetic energy fluctuations, the release of supernatural abilities, and approaching danger, but he..." Chen Shi looked at Sun Tiemei, "but can he prevent people from chatting?"
"If I can keep him occupied and disable his passive skill, wouldn't we all have a chance?"
Fatty and Chang Biao's eyes grew brighter and brighter.
Chen Shi didn't say anything more, because his courage only allowed him to say so much.
Are you sure?
It's not that I can't, nor that I agree, but rather, "Are you sure?"
When Chen Shi heard those three words, he had a strange feeling. The team leader wasn't questioning his plan, but was waiting for him to speak for himself.
It was as if she already knew the plan would work, but she couldn't speak up for him. Because Wei Sheng was handcuffed, and if he faced Lao Yuan alone, he might really die.
"I'm sure." Chen Shi didn't hesitate this time. He swore to the heavens that at this moment, there was no struggle in his heart.
Yes, this is the moment!
Sun Tiemei stared at him for a long time, then turned her head toward the car window, where her seemingly frozen face gradually revealed a different kind of expression.
"I agree."
