Chapter 243 Mana Efficiency
Chapter 243 Mana Efficiency
"You were trying to teach me something""Right, let’s get into it," Evelyn spoke as she shook her head, trying to get the thoughts of sex out of her head.
"Earlier, you said something. What good is a powerful spell without the mana to cast it?" Evelyn spoke, then she bent down and picked two stones from the ground.
One of them was a little big, and the other was a tiny stone, then she tossed both of them towards Roman.
He caught both the stones looking at her in confusion, then she spoke, "The bigger stone is someone with a large mana pool, while the smaller stone is someone with an average mana pool. Tell me which one is more useful?"
"I feel like this is a trick question, but I’ll say the larger one" Roman answered.
Evelyn smiled and shook her head, "That’s the problem you have, you just assume a large mana pool is the solution to your problem, which is wrong, having a large mana pool without the proper knowledge to utilize mana is useless in the face of a powerful mage who has a smaller mana pool, with the proper knowledge"
"I’d like to show you something but it’s nighttime I don’t want to disturb...oh wait" Evelyn turned around and gestured as it calling for someone, but Roman couldn’t see anybody until a lady appeared out of thin air and began walking towards Evelyn.
’What the hell, how did she do that? Is that a spell?’ Roman mumbled in his head as he watched her.
"My Lady," She spoke, bowing her head slightly.
"Create a barrier right here, I don’t want to disturb the entire palace so make like yours"
"Of course, give me a second" she spoke as she stretched her hands forward. The next moment a rune formed and Roman’s focus shot up as he watched her.
A single rune formed and then another rune followed. The second rune was placed on top of the first rune, and slowly Roman lost sight of her as a barrier formed separating both of them.
Roman closed his eyes for a second actively memorizing the rune magic he just saw. It was the reason he couldn’t see her earlier, she was able to create a barrier and hide herself.
"Alright, now watch this carefully, and try to see how much mana I’m using"
Evelyn raised one finger and began gathering mana, Roman infused mana in her eyes and could sense the amount of mana she was infusing. It was tiny, beyond tiny, it wasn’t enough to cast even a fireball.
But then she stretched her hand and a tiny fireball appeared. It wasn’t impressive at all since he could do better than that, but then she shot the fireball forward.
*BOOM!!*
The moment the fireball made contact with the walls of the barrier it hit the barrier with so much force that it felt like the barrier could collapse.
Roman’s eyes widened. He knew the fireball didn’t have that much mana and in turn wouldn’t possibly have much power, but just by looking at the barrier, he knew his fireball wouldn’t cause a dent even if he increased his mana output.
"That... wasn’t a normal fireball right?"
"It was" Evelyn replied with a smile, "The spell itself never changed, but something changed. Can you figure out what it is?"
Roman immediately shook his head, "I can use fireball but mine have never been that strong. Does it have something to do with spell power?"
"A little, but the bigger problem is that you waste mana"
Roman blinked. He didn’t understand what she meant by that. He knew he didn’t waste mana, he wasn’t the best at mana control, but right now he could control his mana and cast spells without difficulty.
"I don’t understand? How do I waste mana?"
"When some mages, especially students cast spells, only a part of that mana is actually poured into the spell, the rest leaks away before the spell is complete. Beginners waste over half of the mana infused to cast a spell, and you’re not the best at mana control so yours is even worse"
"Experience mages lose a tiny bit of their mana too, so it’s not really that big a deal, but what if you managed to change just that"
"Currently, what you do is draw a magic circle, infuse mana and then cast the spell, but what you don’t realize is most of your mana escapes into the air, even before you cast the spell"
"But I can sense mana better than before. Why can’t I sense my mana escaping?" Roman asked.
Evelyn bent down and used her fingers to draw a sketch of a human body in the sand. "A mage’s body is covered by a sort of barrier to prevent mana from leaking, but a tiny amount of mana does leak, but that doesn’t affect anything since that’s just your body, the main mana is stored and produced in your core"
"When you try to cast a spell, you’re bringing mana out of your protective barrier and outside your body. The moment your mana is out of your body, most of them vanish and are lost to the air, but you won’t notice because the air contains mana. You view it as natural because it doesn’t affect your spell or anything at all"
"Most mages go their entire life without learning this, and they don’t teach it in the academy too because of how difficult it is to learn. Seeing something that you’re unable to learn is demoralizing, so you don’t get taught"
"What is it?" Roman asked.
"It’s called mana efficiency"
"A way to minimize the amount of mana spent while keeping your spells at their peak condition, it’s extremely difficult to teach because it’s gotten intuitively, but I’ll try my best"
"Wait, so if it isn’t taught in the academy, how do experienced mages waste little mana? Do they just understand it with time?"
