Chapter 1450: Before That
Chapter 1450: Before That
The hazy moonlight tilted, reflecting together with the candlelight in a certain room within the Praying Tower Royal Court, spreading illumination. It brightened the heavy scrolls either spread open or stacked together on the desk, as well as the face of the blue-haired girl who was intently gazing at them. This girl was Moli, the Whale-man who had been at the Dragon Court for several years.
"Hmm..."
The two elongated black ears on both sides of the girl’s blue long hair fluttered slightly, stirring a bit of cool breeze yet unable to dispel the deep fatigue on her face.
As the priest of the Red Dragon Court, there were many affairs she had to attend to, especially with the wars approaching. Although there were many officials like Mier helping, there were still numerous trivial yet vital aspects that needed Moli’s implementation and supervision.
All the subsequent work would be handed over to the Bat Species clan leader Emre and his wife, whom Rafael greatly trusted. They had followed Rafael to establish the New Dragon Court five years ago.
Moli’s learning speed was fast; within just a few months of coming here, she had completely mastered the Dragon Court Language, with no impediments in listening, reading, or writing.
The current tasks were almost completed, and the time to dispatch troops was drawing closer, leaving Moli somewhat uncertain — though since Fisher’s return, she had not met Rafael privately, the Dragon Court’s affairs were still communicated through official documents, so Moli knew clearly about Rafael and the Red Dragon Court’s upcoming plans.
She suddenly recalled the war two and a half years ago, that furious gale, that seemingly invincible foe, that human general Barbatos.
Unlike Rafael, Moli had stayed beside Xuan Can since childhood. Though Xuan Can was not an excellent educator and many things were not taught in-depth, by staying around a Demigod, Moli distinctly felt the vast difference between Mother and other living creatures.
Myth.
She indeed understood this concept, knowing Fisher had already reached Myth, yet she, as the Whale-man who left the Ocean to protect him from the world-ending whirlpool, still couldn’t see the threshold of the Mythical Rank.
She didn’t have Mother’s talent.
What talent did she have then?
Could it be that she had none at all?
Moli dazedly looked at the now cold tea water in the wooden cup nearby, remained silent for a while, then stepped back from the desk’s support with her overly broad chest, causing it to bounce elastically.
She seemed lost, staring blankly at the cup’s water source, until after a while, she softly called out,
"Lord Ramasitia..."
"..."
But unsurprisingly, Ramasitia still didn’t reply to her. For many years now, Lord Ramasitia’s consciousness had not left the Ocean. If she wanted to contact Him again, Moli would have to return to the deep sea.
But doing so would surely be discovered by Xuan Can, and whether she could return would be uncertain.
However, at this rate, with Moli’s stagnation, she feared she might be captured back by Xuan Can before the impending doom...
"Hmm, what should I do?"
"...What to do?"
"How do I... hey hey hey?"
Moli rubbed her temples, subconsciously replying so, but immediately realized something and quickly looked towards the entrance, where she saw the fierce figure revealed under the faint candlelight.
At the room’s entrance was Rafael, now wearing a black casual dress, her claw resting on the door frame, yet she didn’t step into Moli’s room, seeming to wait outside.
Moli quickly stood up, a bit incredulous as she looked at Rafael at the door.
Perhaps it was the defeat from the previous confrontation, perhaps the guilt of secretly meeting Fisher fearing discovery, or maybe a mix of long-separated reunion joy?
So, at this moment, even though Moli was in her own room, she felt quite uneasy,
"Ra... Rafael, you’ve come?"
"...Yes, may I come in, Moli?"
"Of course."
Rafael smiled slightly and slowly entered the room where Moli worked, facing the night breeze outside the window. Her rose-colored long hair was blown to her back, swaying gently.
The nearby candle stand held many unlit candles, which Rafael noticed and asked,
"Why not light the lamps?"
"When in the ocean, we don’t need much light, I’m used to it..."
"Wouldn’t it be dark?"
But Rafael extended her two fingers over the candle, rubbing slightly, causing the heat to ignite the candle, consecutively lighting other unlit candles, gradually dispelling the room’s shadows and illuminating Moli’s face not far away.
Moli shrank a little but, following the light, the image of the Dragon-man species before her became more distinct.
Rafael’s appearance remained as bright and intense as when they first met, resembling the lit candle intending to illuminate everything in the room.
Unlike Moli who stared at Rafael, Rafael, upon approaching, first saw the various Dragon Court documents displayed on her desk.
