Chapter 883 Dad Doesn't Want Her Anymore
Chapter 883 Dad Doesn't Want Her Anymore
"Dad, Daddy?" Zhouzhou looked at him, stunned.
Qin Lie turned to glance at her. After just a few seconds, he looked away again, giving a faint nod, "Get in the car."
So calm?
No scolding, no hitting?
Zhouzhou was momentarily confused, but the ominous feeling in her heart grew stronger.
From the driver's seat, Chen Tuo gave her a sympathetic glance. The trouble Zhouzhou had caused this time was pretty big.
He opened the car door, stepped out, and exchanged a few words with Lan Tian before walking toward the tarmac.
Zhouzhou cautiously opened the car door and got in, her heart pounding. Her hands clenched tightly, and she sat with her feet firmly on the ground, looking visibly nervous.
"Daddy..." She mustered up the courage to speak, a smile just starting to form on her face. But Qin Lie suddenly closed his laptop, pushed open the door, and stepped out, heading directly to the driver's seat. He started the car.
Zhouzhou only saw his expressionless face. Though he didn't seem angry, the heavy atmosphere around him made her scared.
Suddenly, she didn't know what to say.
The silence in the car became almost suffocating.
Before long, the car stopped in front of the hospital. Qin Lie's voice came through again, "Get out."
This was the third thing he'd said to her since they met.
Each sentence was short.
Zhouzhou looked at him, holding her words in for a while, and finally couldn't help but ask, "Daddy, aren't you coming inside?"
"I've got work at the company. You go in by yourself."@@@@
"Oh." Zhouzhou nodded, opening her mouth as if to say something, but when she met his calm, expressionless eyes, she suddenly found she couldn't utter a word. She could only obediently get out of the car.
Just as she was about to smile and tell him to "drive safely," the car sped off with a whoosh, and the wind even tousled the messy nest of hair on her head.
She stood there with her mouth open, the expression on her face frozen, as the smile slowly stiffened.
Even the Ancestral Master, who had been busy gnawing on a chicken leg, suddenly paused, not daring to make a sound.
So... Dad was angry, right?
Recalling his earlier expression, Zhouzhou's little head drooped, and she walked dejectedly inside.
Seeing her return, Wen Jing sighed with relief, quickly walking up to her. "Zhouzhou, are you alright? You didn't get hurt, did you?"
Zhouzhou shook her head weakly. "No."
Then, as if something suddenly came to mind, she asked, "Sister Marvelous, when did my dad wake up?"
Wen Jing's expression became a bit complicated, and she sighed. "Yesterday morning."
Only when he learned that the plane Lan Tian was piloting had been detected by the airport's signals did he finally relax, immediately driving to the airport without a second thought.
His heart had only settled when he finally saw Zhouzhou.
But this time, he truly was heartbroken.
And Zhouzhou wasn't feeling any better.
The next morning, though she had slept the entire night, she still looked tired, dark circles visible under her eyes.
She turned her head and saw that Ye Lingfeng hadn't woken up yet, though his pulse was stronger than before.
If nothing unexpected happened, she'd soon be able to talk to her Sharp Tongue Daddy again.
Just then, the sound of footsteps reached her ears. Zhouzhou's eyes brightened, and she quickly looked toward the door with eager anticipation. "Dad..."
But before she could finish, the sight of the person who entered dimmed the light in her eyes.
Chen Tuo, seeing her expression, clutched his chest dramatically, feigning hurt. "Zhouzhou, are you really giving me that look? I'm so hurt. I need some comforting."
Zhouzhou ignored him, her gaze drifting down to the school bag he was holding. Staring blankly, she asked, "Why are you carrying my bag?"
"This?" Chen Tuo coughed awkwardly, not sure how to explain, and finally muttered, "Well, you still have to go to school, right? So I brought it for you."
In truth, Qin Lie had given him the bag, instructing him to take Zhouzhou to school and pick her up afterward.
That expression... even now, it made Chen Tuo's heart ache.
He hadn't been angry, just distant, like he was discussing something unrelated to him.
He didn't tell Zhouzhou everything, but she already understood.
She jumped off the bed, not even bothering to put on her shoes, running over to open the bag. Inside were her water bottle and her favorite snacks, all neatly packed.
Her dad had packed it for her.
But he hadn't come to see her.
Zhouzhou stood frozen, her messy hair making her look disheveled and lost.
Chen Tuo preferred her usual lively self--running, jumping, even teasing him and calling him "stinky little brother" was better than this.
But Zhouzhou stayed silent, quietly slinging her school bag over her shoulders. She didn't cry or fuss, obediently eating breakfast before sitting in the car, heading to school.
Every now and then, she glanced out the window, hoping to catch sight of a familiar figure.
Yet, even when they reached the school gates, she didn't see the car.
Her nose stung with tears. Only when her teacher called her did she finally go inside, her little head hanging low and her steps slow and tired.
Across the street, Qin Lie watched her until she disappeared from view.
"Let's go."
