Chapter 153: Unexpected Visitor.
Chapter 153: Unexpected Visitor.
Hugo sat cross legged on the floor of his dorm room, eyes squeezed shut, trying desperately to focus on his breathing. Deep inhale.
Long exhale. He needed this—needed to cleanse his mind of all the chaotic nonsense from the past few days.
The air in the room was still, the faint hum of the air conditioner the only sound as Hugo mumbled under his breath, "Breathe in the peace... breathe out the frustration."
But the frustration refused to leave.
His mind flickered back to Collins’ smug grin, the sight of his freshly painted Benz, and the mountain of cash he’d dropped on the repairs.
It was like his brain was actively sabotaging him. He sighed, pinched the bridge of his nose, and tried again.
"No negativity, Hugo. Just positive vibes. You’re like... a monk or something now. Clear your head."
After ten more minutes of this mental tug-of-war, Hugo finally opened his eyes and let out one last, deep breath. He stretched his arms over his head, feeling a faint sense of accomplishment.
"Alright, Hugo," he muttered, looking at himself in the mirror. "New day, new you. Positive thoughts only."
But his gaze wandered over to the empty package of Alpha Pills on his desk, and the faint smile on his face vanished. He winced.
That little package, sitting there like some sort of cruel reminder, was the result of a stupid moment of impulse.
When he had discovered the effects of the Alpha Pill Package, he had instantly swallowed the thing. He didn’t give himself time to prepare at all.
Now he had to work out in order for the Muscle Unlock Pills contained within to take effect.
But there was one problem—it came with a cursed side effect. He sighed. "Guess I gotta go work out now. It’s not like I can waste that pill’s potential. No pain, no gain, right?"
He trudged to his closet, pulling out a wrinkled T-shirt and his favourite pair of sweatpants—the ones with "Lifting My Problems Away" printed on the front.
He stared at the words for a moment, snorted, and muttered, "Yeah, right. If only."
He threw on his comfiest hoodie and sweatpants, rubbing his hands together in anticipation.
It was time.
Earlier, knowing exactly how hungry the pills would make him after a workout, Hugo had gone ahead and ordered ten boxes of pizza.
Yes, ten. He wasn’t about to risk running out of food. His stomach growled loudly, as if agreeing with his decision.
Right on cue, the doorbell rang. Hugo perked up, grinning. "Finally. Pizza time."
He shuffled to the door, practically salivating, and swung it open without hesitation. But instead of the delivery guy holding his glorious feast, Hugo was met with something—or rather, someone—completely unexpected.
Standing in front of him, holding a small gift bag, was Emily. Emily. The Emily. His classmate. The girl he had been crushing on since the first week of classes.
Hugo froze. His brain screeched to a halt, and for several agonising seconds, all he could do was stare at her.
Emily smiled brightly, tilting her head. "Hi, Hugo!" she said, her voice cheerful and light, as if this was the most normal thing in the world.
Hugo’s mind exploded. ’Why is she here?! Am I dreaming? Did I pass out at the gym and this is some weird hallucination? No, wait, why would I hallucinate Emily at my dorm? Is this a prank? Oh God, do I look like a mess?!’
He finally managed to unstick his tongue from the roof of his mouth. "Uh... hey, Emily," he said, his voice cracking slightly. He cleared his throat. "What, uh... what are you doing here?"
