Chapter 166 THE GODDESS LOVES ME!
Chapter 166 THE GODDESS LOVES ME!
Hugo sat cross legged on his bed, staring at the spinning wheel of fortune that hovered in front of him, glowing like some divine artefact sent from the heavens.
He had already spent 300 points on this advanced gift box wheel, and all he'd gotten were items so bizarrely focused on his mouth that he was starting to wonder if the system was playing a prank.
First, it had been the Super Suppy Mouth Spray, then the Suppy Suppy Gum and finally, the Sappy Suppy Toothbrush.
Seriously, it was too much!
Now, as he prepared to spin the wheel for the fourth time, Hugo raised his hands in a theatrical prayer, speaking aloud to no one in particular.
"Dear Lady Luck," he began, his voice dripping with exaggerated seriousness, "I come before you as a humble man. A man who, might I add, has a perfectly functioning mouth.
"Truly, I don't need any more tongue sprays, whistles, or enchanted gum. My teeth are straight, my lips are soft, and my breath smells like mint. What more could I possibly need?"
He clasped his hands tighter, squeezing his eyes shut for effect. "So please, goddess of fortune, hear my plea. Let this spin be free of mouth-related items.
"I swear, if you give me another one, I'll... I'll stop eating desserts for a week! Or, well, a day. No, an hour! Just, please, no more mouth stuff!"
Satisfied with his heartfelt prayer, Hugo opened his eyes, took a deep breath, and hit the SPIN button.
The wheel lit up in a dazzling swirl of colours, the clicking sound echoing through his room like an ominous countdown.
Hugo leaned forward, his eyes glued to the spinning pointer as he muttered under his breath, "Not the mouth, not the mouth, please not the mouth..."
If someone overhead him, they would have a completely disturbing imagination...
Finally, the wheel slowed, the pointer ticking down with agonising slowness. Hugo's heart raced, his palms sweaty as he watched it inch closer to its final destination.
Click... click... click—
[Ding! Host has received Common Grade: Devil Light Bulb.]
For a moment, Hugo froze, his face blank. Then, as the words registered in his brain, he let out a long, relieved sigh and collapsed backward onto his bed.
"Finally!" he exclaimed, throwing his arms into the air. "No mouth stuff! Thank you, Lady Luck! You're the real MVP!"
He wasn't even angry that it was the lowest available common grade. As long as his mouth was good!
Sitting back up, he quickly opened the item description, his curiosity piqued.
[Devil Light Bulb: When switched on, the bulb emits a red, enchanting light. Prolonged exposure makes people more daring and willing to take risks.]
Before he could unravel the mystery of the double sigh, the wheel slowed.
The clicks grew louder, more deliberate, until finally, it stopped. Hugo squinted at the screen, and his jaw dropped.
[Ding! Host has received Epic Grade: Divine Sight Glasses.]
Hugo didn't move. He didn't blink. For a solid five seconds, he just sat there, staring at the words as if they might disappear if he looked away.
Then, like a dam breaking, laughter erupted from his chest. It started as a chuckle, then grew louder and louder until he was practically howling.
"YES! YES, YES, YES!" he shouted, leaping off the bed and punching the air. "I KNEW IT! THE GODDESS LOVES ME!"

A loud knock came from his door, cutting through his euphoria. "Bro, are you okay in there?"
It was Collins. Of course, it was Collins.
Hugo wiped a tear from his eye, still grinning like a maniac. "Oh, I'm better than okay, Collins. I'm divine!"
"...What does that even mean?" Collins asked, his voice dripping with confusion.
"It means mind your business, Collins!" Hugo shot back, waving dismissively at the door. "Go back to whatever dirty thing you were doing. I'm busy being blessed by the heavens!"
Shaking his head, Collins muttered something Hugo couldn't hear and walked away.
Hugo, meanwhile, flopped back onto his bed, holding his sides as another wave of laughter overtook him.
"Divine Sight Glasses! I'm unstoppable!" he cackled, the red glow of the Devil Light Bulb casting an almost sinister aura around him. "Today, the system. Tomorrow, the world!"
