Chapter 12 – May your future be as bright as the sun, and full of promise

Over the past three years, Chen Xun began to accompany Ning Si on medical visits, traveling among the locals to treat various complex illnesses. Sometimes, he would inadvertently reveal his impressive sixteen-pack abs when encountering minor troubles.

Chen Xun carried a small booklet with him, filled with numerous questions. Ning Si was incredibly patient, continuously providing answers to his eager disciple, a rarity indeed.

However, during one visit to a gentleman's house, Chen Xun accidentally exposed a mountain-axing axe tucked at his waist, causing everyone to gasp in shock. Was this really a doctor?!

At that moment, Chen Xun could only offer an embarrassed smile. After all, it was normal to carry an axe when traveling.

He calmly adjusted his robe to cover the axe but accidentally revealed two more, prompting the household guards to ready themselves for battle, perceiving him as no good.

With a kindly smile, Chen Xun kept explaining that it was understandable for a traveler to carry extra weapons. Had Teacher Ning not been there, a battle might have erupted.

As Teacher Ning conducted the consultation, the gentleman's family began to sweat profusely, fearing that if they encountered an incurable disease, the young man might just cleave the patient in two, thus 'solving' the illness...

Chen Xun, noticing their expressions, continued to nod and smile reassuringly.

They hurriedly returned the smile, nodding like pecking hens, as cold sweat kept breaking out.

...

At Pingtai Medical Hall, the sun shone brightly on a beautiful spring day.

Chen Xun, now donning a doctor's robe, was respectfully addressed as Doctor Chen by every assistant he passed.

"Doctor Chen, save him, please!"

A local, supporting a man with a darkened complexion, rushed into the medical hall, his face etched with urgency.

Chen Xun's eyes narrowed as he observed from a distance. The poison had deeply penetrated the man's blood; any later, and it would have been time to prepare a feast for the dead.

"Has he been bitten by a snake?"

Chen Xun placed the man on a nearby bed. Two small wounds on his hand indicated a venomous bite.

"No, Doctor Chen, he ate poisonous mushrooms."@@@@

"What?"

Chen Xun was startled and began to take the pulse, his expression changing dramatically as he looked at the local, "After eating poisonous mushrooms, he was also bitten by a venomous snake..."

Thump.

The local knelt down, crying and pleading, "Doctor, please save him."

"Moo~~" Black Bull nuzzled Chen Xun, feeling down but inwardly seething with anger.

"Bull, let's leave. This place isn't for us. I'll go say goodbye to Teacher Ning."

Chen Xun patted Black Bull, not wanting to hinder anyone else's livelihood at the medical hall.

"Moo!"

Black Bull leaped up, eager to leave, and hurried to pack their belongings.

Chen Xun watched its busy figure, his heart warming slightly, a small smile on his lips.

At Teacher Ning's residence.

Chen Xun had changed back into his original blue clothes, no longer wearing the medical hall's doctor robe.

"I'm aware of the situation and understand your difficulties," Teacher Ning said, seated in the main chair, his eyes reflecting wisdom from years gone by. "Human nature is inherently evil, a conclusion I've drawn from many years of practicing medicine. I hope this insight will aid you on your journey."

"Teacher Ning's teachings, I dare not forget," Chen Xun said solemnly, bowing deeply. He had learned so much in the past decade.

Teacher Ning picked up an unnamed book from the table, explaining, "These are my years of experience. I'm giving it to you."

"What?"

Chen Xun was surprised, quickly catching the book, "Teacher Ning, this is too generous."

With a gentle tug, Teacher Ning's expression changed as he couldn't pull the book away, which seemed clamped in an iron grip.

"Heh, no matter, take it."

"Thank you, Teacher Ning!"

With a flash, the book appeared on Chen Xun's waist, the speed of the movement causing Teacher Ning's pupils to widen slightly.

"Go now, and come back to visit when you have time."

"Teacher Ning, thank you for your shelter. If the Ning family ever needs help, no matter how far, I will return."

Chen Xun's expression turned serious as he bowed deeply.

Teacher Ning nodded continuously, touched, "I've been observing you for years. You're not a simple man, but one of great wisdom pretending to be foolish. Stay true to yourself."

Chen Xun slowly looked up, giving Teacher Ning one last glance before turning to leave.

Watching Chen Xun's departing figure, Teacher Ning smiled faintly, "Chen Xun, may your future be bright and promising."
