Chapter 18: Unclaimed Distributions
"I still can't believe this." Matt shook his head from where he sat in the passenger's seat. "The world works in mysterious ways."
"I think it's lord not world." I said with a grin.
"Same difference." Matt scoffed, waving away my words. "Your mom just had a seventy million dollars real estate company lying around and didn't give you until you're twenty two?"
"Well, when you think about it from her perspective, it makes sense." I shrugged, keeping my eyes on the road.
"Hmmn." Matt nodded. "You're right. What's a seventy million dollar company when you have a billionaire dad? Your sisters are literally richer than that. Well, except the youngest."
I nodded in agreement. "She couldn't have seen this coming."
This is another advantage of having my reward come in such a legally wrapped and packaged little bow. I don't have to explain like a mad man to Matt where I got the money.
What would I say? It just magically appeared? He'd still stand by me but he'd definitely assume that the cash had been made illegally.
"And there's more where that came from?"
"Yeah. It's a testamentary trust. Apparently, she wanted me to achieve some things before I get the rest."
"Damn. Didn't know your mum was that rich."
"Me too."
After receiving my inheritance, I had gone online, searching for any information available on my mother and I couldn't find anything. It was as if she didn't exist.
Or at least that was what I thought until the system made an appearance.
[Restricted Information!]
[All access to this information has been restricted as it would affect reward payments.]
Me actively seeking and finding information on my mother would mean the system would have to find other ways to pay me and they might not be as ideal as this.
"You know, if you think about it, it actually makes sense." Matt said, bringing me back to the present.
I own the company now. I'll be an idiot not to take a look for myself.
We stepped out of the car to see that there was already someone waiting for us outside, standing alone.
"Welcome, Mr. Voss." He grinned as he came forward to shake my hand.
"Mr. Gray." I shook his hand. "I already said there was no need for an entourage. I don't subscribe to those outdated practices."
"I know, I know." Mr. Gray, the current CEO of Cooper Real Estate laughed. "That's why I'm the only one here greeting you personally."
"There is no need for that." I laughed along with him. "This is my business partner, Matthew Hardin."
Matt's brows rose from being referred to as a business partner but shook Gray's hand all the same.
Then, we went up to his office, discussing the past, present and future of the company.
The more we spoke, the more I realized how smart Gray was.
I could understand why Lincoln had placed him in charge of the company and I had no intention of removing him as CEO.
Yes. I won't be taking over this company for now. I had bigger things to pursue and leading a company would only restrict my time.
We sat in the spacious office discussing and the topic finally got to the real reason I was here.
The reason why I prefer the 70 million company instead of 70 million cash.
"According to our records," Gray presented the documents, "you currently have up to 15 million dollars in unclaimed distributions. From what you said, you'd like to claim it now?"
I nodded. "Yes, I will."
For limited liability companies like this, I am entitled to a percentage of the profits as a shareholder and the total after twenty two years is a whooping fifteen million.
The company originally earned around 3 million a year twenty-two years ago and had grown it to its current 18 million.
After paying the operating expenses and taxes, I am entitled to a small percentage of that profit and the rest is invested back into the business.
With that money in my hand, I'll use Mila and buy my way into the wealthy people's playground.
