Chapter 68 Ghost With No Past
Chapter 68 Ghost With No Past
68 ghost with no past
the door opened and noah walked in with his attorney.
lincoln and i stood, shaking hands with them. "welcome." i grinned.
"thank you." he returned my grin before schooling himself. we were here for business.
"let's sit." i gestured to the chairs across from us.
they sat and lincoln presented the documents. "here it is. sixty million dollars for a twelve percent stake in sunset inn."
they collected the documents and reviewed it, making sure it matched everything that had been previously negotiated.
with quinn, she'd cut ties and rejected the deal but with noah, we had an agreement. cancelling just because i got my own funds would lower my credibility within the pine press circle and i definitely didn't want that.
no one wants to be branded as unreliable.
when the news of the adam family scandal had broken, noah had shown his shrewdness as a businessman by going radio silent.
he hadn't withdrawn his investment offer but had waited for everything to calm down. after all, he had nothing to lose. and now, he would be enjoying the benefits of his strategy.
"this looks good." his attorney nodded, turning to look at us. "everything is in order."
"perfect." i said. "shall we proceed?"
"let's."
we exchanged contracts and signed it. when the whole ceremony was over, we stood shaking hands.
"it is a pleasure doing business with you."
there were smiles all around and each person conferred with their attorney.
the deal has been signed and my ownership of sunset inn has been reduced to eighty eight percent.
this also meant that my net worth has also been reduced by sixty million dollars. fortunately, it was a drop in the bucket. i was still worth four billion.
"thank you for your help." i shook hands with lincoln.
"why not run a background check on your friend, matthew hardin?"
"you pried into matt's life?" i said, angry. why will he drag matt into this?
he raised both hands in a gesture of surrender. "look, i won't apologize for it. how can i trust a man who was essentially a ghost?"
i had nothing to say to that. i was not calm or okay with it but i would hear him out.
"when i was looking through matt's background check, that was when i found traces of you. it was sparse but it was there. you really did exist. your name really was nico voss." he leaned back in his chair.
"but i was still back at square one. i still didn't know who you were and what you wanted. why was a voss searching for investment? he's a voss! all he needs to do is snap his fingers and investors would come running."
"i had my doubts. at least, until jenny voss arrived in town."
"when i heard that she really did know you and you guys were family, i felt... relief."
"but questions still remained. mostly why. why were you looking for investment?"
"unfortunately, i had no answer to that. i was surprised when you got abstract capital to invest but at the same time, i wasn't. sunset inn did have potential."
"but what really motivated me to invest was your passion."
"what?" i asked, this time in confusion.
"i could see it. you really did have passion in sunset inn and wanted to see it grow. that was what persuaded me to invest. and now? i'm glad i did."
he grinned, holding my gaze.
"i don't know why you searched for investment when you already had enough money to finance it but they always did say the best of the best were always eccentric people." he said.
"i... don't know what to say to that." i frowned.
this was a blind spot of having the system. to those observing from the outside, i worked so hard to secure what i already had.
but from my perspective, i worked hard to get what i needed.
he stood, extending a hand. "i don't know what you think of me now, nico. but i want to say that i'm looking forward to working with you."
