Chapter 124
Chapter 124
Nydrian remained unconscious for the entire journey to the capital. It seemed that the Elf Elders had attached a small enchanted leaf to him, keeping him in a deep, immobile sleep. Ironically, those same haughty elders had been abandoned by the Imperial soldiers who arrested them, effectively becoming prisoners themselves.
The carriage, with even the windows barred, allowed no light inside. Lin couldn’t tell how many days had passed. In prisoner transports, they avoided using teleportation circles, deliberately prolonging the journey to wear down the prisoner’s spirit.
For Lin, however, this delay was an advantage, a valuable time window. By now, Airan was likely gathering troops. By letting himself be captured, Lin ensured they would have ample time to amass enough forces to reach the capital for his public trial.
Additionally, his capture allowed Airan’s allies within the empire to stir public opinion. The rumors spreading would be along these lines:
Clang!
The carriage stopped.
“Get the elf out first,” came the voice of the detestable officer in charge.
Sunlight flooded in as the door opened, almost blinding after days in darkness. As Lin stepped out, he realized they had reached the back gate of the imperial palace.
“Take them to the dungeons.”@@@@
