Chapter 462 Sniper Rounds

Chapter 462 Sniper Rounds

jade didn't miss a beat. she pivoted on her heel, her movements a blur of grace and lethal intent. her blade swept out in a wide arc, catching the first zombie across the torso.

the sharp steel sliced through rotten flesh like a hot knife through butter, cutting the creature in half. it crumpled to the ground, its upper body sliding off its legs in a grotesque display.the second zombie reached for her, its fingers clawing the air.

jade ducked under its outstretched arms and spun again, her sword extended. the blade connected with its neck, severing the head with a clean swipe.

the head flew off, trailing a grotesque spray of dark blood, before the body stumbled and fell forward, landing with a heavy thud.

breathing heavily, jade scanned the aftermath, her thoughts racing. "that should be all of them... now, who's the shooter?" her eyes shifted toward the massive pile of bodies outside the parking garage as a group of men, both young and old, began to emerge. some sported bandages, suggesting recent wounds.

as jade wiped her brow, she noticed a streak of blood along her face—a stark reminder of the fray. just then, a man's voice cut through the settling dust. he emerged last from the garage, his presence commanding.

"those are some insane moves you have there, young lady. but it's best not to push yourself too much. come with us, and we can help you bunker down until things clear up."

jade turned toward the voice, her gaze landing on a tall figure standing about seven feet tall.

the man had a buzzed cut of blond hair and wore a suit and tie—black with a hint of white underneath. notably, the emblem "g" was emblazoned on his tie, marking him distinctly.

his posture was relaxed yet authoritative, suggesting he was more than accustomed to crisis management.

"oh, i had a run-in with them a while ago with a friend named rosa," jade replied.

he snapped his fingers and stated, "is that the girl the little squirt won't shut up about? well, last i heard, vincent is bunkered down in the fallout shelter they have to hide from the police currently, and vitt is out on a killing spree."

"my name's vonte cruz," he continued with a broad smile. "it's a pleasure to meet you, dear. i wish it was under better circumstances; maybe i would buy you a drink."

jade chuckled and replied, "sorry, i'm still waiting on my bottle of wine from a certain someone, but i appreciate the gesture. if you could please focus on getting everyone injured to safety, we can focus on eradicating the—"

before she could finish, the ground beneath them shook as the air vibrated around them. a loud siren broke the tension, blaring from high up in the sky.

as the ground trembled under their feet, the sky overhead darkened to a menacing red. a vast portal, spanning 10x10, expanded across the horizon, altering the afternoon into an eerie twilight. at that moment, jade's ear piece began to ring, its sharp tone cutting through the chaos.

"hello, who is it?" jade answered, her voice steady despite the turmoil.

"it's the director, jade. you have a high source of energy coming in. i've yet to get in contact with ashiki, and gojaro has made contact with one of the big dogs," the director's voice was urgent over the phone.

"a huge seismic shock has been recorded where you and gojaro are located. please get everyone to safety and handle the problem. i have dispatched teams 1-4 to back you up, and the military will begin suppressive fire."

"use those eyes of yours to carve the best path possible," he instructed firmly.

"i thought you told me to limit the usage of them?" jade asked, a hint of concern in her tone.

"times have changed," the director replied succinctly, the line clicking off as he ended the call.
