Chapter 519 The Appearing

Chapter 519 The Appearing

Gojaro hesitated, watching the blood still trickling down the Director's neck. "What about you, sir? That wound—"

The Director's breathing was heavier than before, but Gojaro watched as the deep cut around the Director's neck slowly began to close, his crimson skin fading back to its usual shade. His movements were steady, but the fatigue was starting to show. "I'll be fine," the Director said, his voice calm despite the exhaustion. "My wounds will heal over time, but I need some rest.

How's the poison affecting you?"

Gojaro, suddenly reminded of the attack, brought his hand to his cheeks and neck, feeling for any lingering effects. "I... I forgot about that, but honestly, I feel fine now."

The Director gave a small nod. "It must've dissipated when the creature died. Still, get checked out by the medical team. And take that gem with you. I want to make sure you're the one who delivers it."

Gojaro raised an eyebrow as he bent down to pick up the gem. "Me, sir? Why?"

The Director smirked but didn't elaborate. "For another time. And what about you, Valaria?" He glanced at the young woman, checking her over. "He wasn't too rough with you, was he?"

Valaria, still perched on Gojaro's back, gave a deadpan stare. "Way too rough, sir. You should punish him with fifty lashes."

A brief moment of silence passed before the Director chuckled, shaking his head as he placed a hand on her head. "That'll do, dear." Explore new worlds at empire

They all shared a short laugh, the tension of the battle finally breaking as the adrenaline began to wear off. The soldiers who had been backing them up during the fight, sent by Commander Li Wen, approached the group, saluting smartly.

"Well done," one of the soldiers said, his tone respectful. "Commander Li sends his regards. We'll handle the cleanup of the Kaiju remains. Please return to base as needed and assist in locating anyone displaying signs of new abilities."

The Director watched as small bits of frost left Chen's mouth, the cold air making his breath visible. "Well, that's unfortunate, young man," he said with a chuckle, "because you, Sergeant Chen, are about to become very familiar with the cold."

Chen frowned in confusion. "What do you mean, sir?"

"You have the pleasure of being the first person I've seen here showing signs of power," the Director said, his tone casual but knowing. "I can see a bit further than others, and I can already see it—ice powers, or something close to it, are manifesting within you."

Chen's eyes widened, and his hands instinctively went to his shoulders, where he felt a strange chill spreading through his body. His skin tingled as if frost was creeping beneath the surface.

"Don't worry," the Director reassured him. "We'll make sure you're taken care of." With that, he clasped the wristband onto Chen's arm, and as soon as it clicked into place, Chen's body shimmered for a brief second before vanishing from sight.

The guards nearby gawked, stunned by the sudden disappearance. One of them, too curious for his own good, blurted out, "What just happened? Where did he go?"

The Director shot the guard a look, clearly unimpressed. "What do you think happened? Do you even listen?"

"Well, they don't tell us much, sir," the guard mumbled, glancing at the others around him. "Will I unlock powers too?"

The Director shrugged nonchalantly, looking the guard up and down. "Maybe. Maybe not. Activation times vary for everyone. But if I were to take a guess at your future, I'd say you're likely to develop a lightning-based attribute. Maybe even some heightened eyesight."

The guard's eyes lit up with excitement. "Lightning, sir? Really?"

"That's if you live long enough," the Director said, his voice suddenly cold again. "Now, I must be going."

He turned to Gojaro, who was watching the interaction with amusement. "Let's go, Gojaro."
