Chapter 148 Story 148: The Last Ride

In the heart of a once-thriving city, now reduced to ruins, the remnants of humanity struggled to survive. The sky was perpetually dark, filled with smoke and the distant echoes of explosions. Tall buildings, once symbols of progress, stood as crumbling monuments to a forgotten era. Windows shattered, walls cracked, and the streets overgrown with weeds told tales of abandonment and despair.

Amidst this desolation, a lone bicycle lay on its side, its wheels still and rusting. It belonged to a young girl named Mira, who had once ridden it through these very streets, laughing and carefree. But those days were long gone. Now, the city was a battleground, and survival was the only goal.

Mira and her small group of survivors had taken refuge in the basement of an old library. They had fortified the entrance, but the constant threat of zombies kept them on edge. Every night, they could hear the groans and shuffles of the undead, searching for their next meal.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an eerie glow over the city, Mira decided to venture out. Supplies were running low, and they needed food and water. She grabbed her backpack, a flashlight, and a makeshift weapon—a metal pipe she had found in the rubble.

She reached her bicycle, lying where she had left it. With a quick glance over her shoulder, she saw more zombies emerging from the shadows. She hopped on the bike and pedaled as fast as she could, the wind whipping through her hair.

The ride back to the library was a blur of fear and adrenaline. She could hear the zombies behind her, their groans growing louder. But she didn't stop. She couldn't stop. She had to make it back.

As she reached the library, the door swung open, and her friends pulled her inside. They quickly barricaded the entrance, the sound of the zombies pounding on the door echoing through the basement.

Mira collapsed on the floor, her breath coming in ragged gasps. She had made it. They had made it. For now, they were safe. But in this world of darkness and despair, safety was always temporary.
