Chapter 300 Story 300: The End of Darkness

The crimson artifact throbbed like a beating heart in the core lab, casting an eerie glow over the shattered facility. The undead surged through the corridors, a tide of death driven by the Zombie King's command. Damien stood at the lab's entrance, his machete gleaming with blood, ready to make his final stand.

"Clara, how much longer?" Damien yelled over the alarms.

"Just a few more seconds!" Clara shouted back, her fingers deftly wiring the explosives. "We destroy this thing, we destroy him."

The sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the corridor. The air grew cold as the Zombie King appeared, his grotesque, half-mechanical form towering over the carnage. His eyes, glowing with malevolence, locked onto Damien.

"You've fought well, Rook," the King said, his voice a low growl. "But this world belongs to the dead. You can't stop evolution."

Damien raised his machete. "The only thing you've evolved into is a monster."

The King charged, and Damien met him head-on. Their clash was a storm of steel and fury, Damien's agility countering the King's brute strength. Sparks flew as the King's clawed hands raked against the blade.

With a final, anguished look, Clara sprinted toward the exit.

The King's body exploded in a shower of sparks and gore, but Damien stood his ground. As the countdown reached zero, the artifact erupted in a blinding flash of light, obliterating the lab and everything within it.

Clara emerged into the sunlight, collapsing on the grass as the ground trembled beneath her. The facility imploded, the crimson glow fading into nothingness.

For a moment, there was silence. Then, the undead collapsed around her, their connection to the King severed.

She stared at the ruins, clutching the dog tags Damien had given her earlier. "You did it," she whispered, her voice breaking.

In the days that followed, survivors began to rebuild. The nightmare was over, but Damien's sacrifice became a legend, a tale of hope in a world ravaged by despair.

As Clara stood on a hill overlooking the reborn town, she felt a faint breeze and smiled. "Thank you, Damien."

The end was not darkness—it was a new dawn.
