Chapter 339 Story 339: Blood and Shadows
The dim light of dawn barely filtered through the cracked windows of the abandoned warehouse. Zara adjusted her crimson tactical suit, ensuring her weapons were secure in their holsters. Vera had insisted on a quick detour to regroup and resupply, but Zara's instincts screamed that time was running out.
Callum sat cross-legged on the floor, cleaning a small handgun. His strength was returning, but his pale face betrayed his lingering exhaustion. Vera, meanwhile, was busy setting up a makeshift communications hub, her hands flying across a keyboard.
"Alright," Vera said, breaking the tense silence. "I've pinpointed the Syndicate's next target. A supply convoy carrying bio-engineered serums—experimental, high-risk, and extremely valuable to their operations. We intercept it, and we hit them where it hurts."
Zara's brow furrowed. "And how exactly do we do that? They'll have it locked down tighter than Fort Knox."
"Not as tight as you'd think," Vera replied, a sly grin spreading across her face. "I hacked into their transport logs. The convoy is taking a detour through the old industrial sector—low surveillance, fewer patrols. It's their weak spot, and it's where we strike."
Zara nodded, her mind already racing through possible scenarios. "What's the catch?"
"Other than the Syndicate throwing everything they've got at us if we're caught?" Vera quipped. "Nothing major. Just your typical suicide mission."
Callum chuckled weakly. "Sounds like a regular day for us."
"On my mark," Vera's voice crackled softly in her ear.
The first explosion rocked the ground, a calculated blast that disabled the lead truck. Chaos erupted as guards scrambled for cover. Zara moved swiftly, her silenced pistol taking out two guards before they could react.
Callum provided cover fire, his shots precise despite his weakened state. Vera hacked into the convoy's systems, disabling their backup protocols.
But as Zara approached the second truck, a familiar voice stopped her cold.
"Well, well, if it isn't Zara Kincaid," a man's voice drawled.
Zara turned to see a figure stepping out of the shadows, a cruel smile on his face. Recognition hit her like a punch to the gut.
"Gabriel," she muttered, her grip tightening on her weapon.
The Syndicate's deadliest enforcer had arrived. And he wasn't alone.
