Chapter 414: Story 414: The Grim Encounter

The stale air of the tunnel reeked of damp metal and decay. Shadow and Rook moved cautiously, their steps echoing against the hollow walls. The dim, flickering lights overhead painted eerie shadows on the curved surface, making every corner feel like a trap waiting to spring.

"This doesn’t feel right," Shadow whispered, her twin blades drawn, her instincts screaming danger.

Rook nodded, gripping his shotgun tightly. His breathing was steady, but his eyes darted to every possible blind spot. "Stay sharp. Something’s down here."

Their conversation was interrupted by a distant metallic clang. Both froze. The sound was deliberate, purposeful, and getting closer.

From the darkness ahead, the rhythmic clanking of heavy boots echoed toward them. A shadowy figure emerged, backlit by the faint glow of emergency lights. Clad in tactical armor reinforced with thick plates, the figure moved with the precision of a predator. Its helmet gleamed under the flickering light, a red visor glowing ominously.

The intruder’s weapon, a modified handgun with an extended barrel, was trained on them. Its stance spoke of military training—steady, calculating, and ready to kill.

Her blade struck true, slicing into the back of its knee. The figure stumbled, momentarily off balance. Rook seized the opportunity, rushing forward and slamming the butt of his shotgun into the figure’s helmet.

The force knocked the figure to the ground, but it recovered with terrifying speed, sweeping Rook’s legs out from under him. Shadow lunged, her blade aiming for its neck, but the figure caught her wrist mid-strike, its grip like a vice.

"You’re outmatched," it said coldly.

"Maybe," Shadow spat, twisting her wrist free and stabbing at its visor. The blade cracked the red lens, sparks flying as the figure recoiled.

It stumbled back, reaching for its sidearm. But before it could aim, the tunnel began to tremble. A deafening roar echoed from deeper within.

"Something worse is coming," Shadow muttered, pulling Rook to his feet.

The figure paused, seemingly evaluating the new threat. Without another word, it holstered its weapon and retreated into the darkness, leaving Rook and Shadow to face whatever monstrosity awaited them.
