Chapter 2382: Mermaid
Chapter 2382: Mermaid
"What happened upstairs?" A player who was unaware of the situation pulled aside someone who had run down from the upper floors and asked. To avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, they mostly asked the Fish Banquet’s waitstaff. However, most of the waitstaff didn’t really know what had happened; those who have survived long in the Fish Banquet Building are all sharp. Whether it’s a brawl among Advanced Players, a duel between super strong players, or if it’s players owned by the Fish Banquet Building dealing with disobedient ones, or perhaps even dungeon props escaping from rooms, all could lead to large-scale casualties. Those without strong abilities run fast; spectators either die early or survive against all odds. Clearly, the waitstaff working here don’t fall into these categories.
People wise enough wouldn’t join this spectacle.
But there were still quite a few who loved watching the commotion, probably because the attitude of people fleeing wasn’t very proactive, leading some to misjudge the situation. Some even followed the Shark Mask to see the spectacle on the lower floors.
When he was far enough away, and hadn’t seen the silhouette across several upstairs floors, nor felt any surge in Spatial Power, Xu Huo felt considerably safer and began descending the stairs.
The "Miss Zhai" he met earlier was clearly just a go-between, with many players around her lacking any sense of crisis. If the true owner of the Fish Banquet Building lacked even basic caution, it would be impossible to survive this long. And the floor he’d exited from indicated this point too; Miss Zhai met him on the 49th floor.
He wasn’t sure what was happening upstairs, but if a "Gourmet" was roaming within the Fish Banquet Building, he should be able to gather some clues now. Even if not aware of the Perfect Potion, any major incidents within the building would pique interest.
As he reached the 30th floor, a disheveled woman burst through the escape door beside him. Upon seeing each other, Xu Huo immediately recognized her as the female player he had encountered in Chunyi City who lured others with her beauty.
"The ox and horse?" He called out to her.
The female player had already reached the corner of the stairs but turned at the words, "It’s you!"
Xu Huo had altered his appearance several times; it wasn’t surprising she didn’t recognize him. But both were familiar with the phrase, and upon seeing the "Green Poison Stinger" mask on his head, she gritted her teeth and stopped, pleading, "Save me..."
The mermaid mask had fallen from her forehead but was tangled in her hair without fading as other masks did. This indicated her mask, like the Mermaid Mask the Girl in the painting received upon entering, was obtained through a "shortcut."
Two players had already reached the door but halted abruptly upon seeing Xu Huo, keeping distance as they asked, "Friend, are you meddling?"
Xu Huo shifted his gaze from the woman’s panicked, desperate face and asked the two, "Who is your boss?"
The two players exchanged glances, "May I ask who you are?"
"This is my friend. She doesn’t have an invitation. I’d like to know how she appeared here." Xu Huo walked towards them, "I’d like you to lead the way."
The players’ expressions changed slightly, but before they could act, one had a temple pierced and collapsed to the ground.
"Kneel down!" With Xu Huo’s command, the other alive reflexively dropped to his knees, but reacted halfway through.
Losing initiative in the confrontation, even if he realized it, he had no safe escape route.
The Secant Line and Materialized Item intersected at his neck, especially the Materialized Item, completely adhered to the player’s skin, rendering usual Defense Props ineffective.
"How odd, why didn’t you escape into the game world?" Xu Huo mocked, standing before him, "No Tickets?"
The man coldly replied, "Kill me if you must, spare the nonsense. I would never divulge any information you wish to know!"
Xu Huo produced a vial of Truth Serum, "Do you have a chip implanted? If not, you still have the option to commit suicide."
The man’s eyes changed as he eyed the Potion, unable to suppress trembling. He chose a safer method, shaking loose a business card from his sleeve.
Upon the card hitting the ground, he vanished.
"Quite fast indeed." Xu Huo picked up the card, reading "Da Rong Group," followed by a job title and contact information.
"Da Rong Group, located in District 001."
He had seen this company’s advertisements in Chunyi City, covering diverse industries.
"Do you know this person?" He waved the card in hand.
The female player had just extracted a chip from her arm, regained some composure, changed clothes and appearance, and was now leaning against the corridor wall. "I just met him today; I only learned the Da Rong Group’s young master is a frequent visitor of the Fish Banquet."
"Some rooms within the building correspond to unique spaces, but not all can sever game access. Moreover, you’ve already come out." Xu Huo glanced at the chip on the ground, "What’s it?"
"It’s a microchip that continuously releases an electric current," the female player explained, "It releases a peculiar current rendering one unable to move; cruelly, it’s directly implanted in a vital organ, preventing a ’slave’ from escaping before satisfying the client."
"Even rashly attempting to reach the station and failing to extract the chip makes one a target for slaughter."
"You were captured." Xu Huo motioned for her to follow him, "Are there pimps inside the Fish Banquet?"
"The woman I told you about before," the female player replied, "Attracting Wealth and Treasure."
Xu Huo nodded slightly, not pressing further. Instead, he asked, "You were sent here, how do you plan to get out?"
"The Fish Banquet Building is situated in a distinct space; those who enter generally can only leave with Tickets unless aided by staff." The female player paused, "Earlier, something happened upstairs. The room I was in had blocked the game access. When the owner wavered for a moment, my Defense Props activated automatically, allowing me to escape."
"This young master of Da Rong Group is truly cautious." Xu Huo remarked, sealing game access and activating electric chips.
The female player scornfully, angrily replied, "Those lacking courage to enter the game resort to deplorable means to ravage and trample players, gratifying their perverse desires."
"Are there many players like you entering the Fish Banquet?" Xu Huo casually asked.
The female player hesitated briefly before answering, "Many."
"Over seventy percent are female. They often don’t survive three days before dying. There are numerous ways to weaken their combat abilities. Some who fiercely resist are faced with drugs or other means before presented to clients, ruining part of their nerves or rendering them incoherent with drugs..."
