Chapter 2090 - 2291: I Need to Talk to You!!!
Sure enough, after Fatty and Hu Lai finished their little skit, Liang Xiaohan's doubts were significantly reduced, though her face still showed disbelief. She wasn't quite convinced by Hao Jian and insisted on trusting her own eyes over mere words, doubting what Fatty and Hu Lai said. If things were as they claimed, then what did she see today? Though their story appeared flawless, she still had a feeling they were conspiring to deceive her. She looked at Hao Jian without hesitation and asked, "If that's the case, why are you panting as if you've just run here after spending a whole noon playing poker?" Hao Jian frowned, but Hu Lai quickly explained, "Oh! It's like this: when we play poker, the loser has to do push-ups. Though Brother Hao is quite skilled in other things, he's horrendously bad at poker and lost several times, doing push-ups multiple times." After speaking, Hu Lai gave Hao Jian a meaningful glance, seeming to say, "Look, Brother Hao, how clever I am to react so quickly." Hao Jian, however, avoided looking at him to prevent being exposed. It's better to be cautious around women like Liang Xiaohan, as even the slightest flaw would be detected by her. "Hmm!" Liang Xiaohan snorted, then turned and left, casting a meaningful glance at Hao Jian that seemed to warn him that if she found any trace of evidence, he'd better brace himself. After she left, Liang Xiaohan sat down at her desk. Although Hao Jian still sat there, he remained uneasy, feeling Liang Xiaohan's chilling presence lingering around him. Seeing Liang Xiaohan's back turned to them, Hu Lai looked at Hao Jian and said, "Brother Hao, how did I do? Didn't disappoint you, right?" Fatty also chimed in quietly, "I did well too, didn't spill the beans." Hao Jian didn't say a word, instead glaring at them, signaling not to speak. Though Liang Xiaohan had returned to her seat, the classroom was still not crowded. If she heard them talking, they'd be doomed. It's better to be cautious, as the saying goes, "Caution keeps the ship from capsizing for ten thousand years," so Hao Jian forbade them from speaking. Afterward, the three pretended to play cards, continuing the poker and push-ups charade. Though Hao Jian didn't actually lose, he pretended to be bad at poker, deliberately losing several times to do push-ups, thereby covering up his earlier lies. Fortunately, class started soon, and more students returned to the classroom. Zhang Danlin entered the class a minute or two before lessons began, and as she passed Hao Jian, she glanced at him thoughtfully, while Hao Jian returned her gaze. When Zhang Danlin sat down, Liang Xiaohan, initially engrossed in her book, glanced at her, their eyes carrying a deep understanding, known only to the two of them. Then class commenced, with Hu Lai and Fatty returning to their seats. Thus, the incident was mostly behind them, and after one or two classes without incident, Hao Jian finally felt somewhat relieved. Although Liang Xiaohan threatened to expose him, she had no solid evidence to confront him, so while she might be upset, she couldn't do anything to Hao Jian. Hao Jian feigned ignorance, and afternoon arrived. By then, Hao Jian's mind shifted away from this matter. When he went for lunch after class, he received a call from Baldy, informing him that plans with the Axe Gang were set for Saturday afternoon. Upon hearing this, Hao Jian smiled slightly, relieved that Saturday morning could be spent sleeping in; he acknowledged the call and hung up. Hao Jian trusted Baldy's capabilities, confident that since Baldy could arrange this meeting, he needn't worry about the rest, knowing he just had to show up as Baldy handled the specifics. After dinner, while wandering aimlessly, Hao Jian unexpectedly encountered Lin Dongyang and was surprised to see him with Li Yaqin, who was dramatically saved by Lin Dongyang in front of Hao Jian's classroom last time. Seeing them together wasn't surprising; what startled him was them holding hands, clearly showing the signs of a budding romance. Witnessing this, Hao Jian widened his eyes slightly, realizing how Lin Dongyang, once bullied, had seemingly become the successful suitor. This was both a surprise and delight for Hao Jian, marking Lin Dongyang's transformation into someone new, someone Hao Jian admired. Watching Lin Dongyang and Li Yaqin stroll together, laughing and chatting, Hao Jian felt quite pleased. "Ahem!" Hao Jian cleared his throat intentionally. At that moment, Lin Dongyang was holding Li Yaqin's hand while walking past Hao Jian, so engrossed in each other they hadn't noticed him. After Hao Jian's deliberate cough, Lin Dongyang turned to see Hao Jian beside him, looking surprised. "Boss!" Lin Dongyang said happily. What Hao Jian noticed was Li Yaqin quickly retracting her hand, her cheeks turning a bright red. Seeing this, Hao Jian smiled subtly; a shy young girl caught in romance, embarrassed upon being spotted. With this thought in mind, Hao Jian gave Li Yaqin a meaningful look, making her blush even more. She didn't understand why she felt this way, shy yet strangely delighted, as if savoring honeyed bliss. Knowing she was embarrassed, Hao Jian looked away after a glance and focused on Lin Dongyang, asking, "Do you have time on Saturday afternoon? I need to talk to you." Lin Dongyang glanced at Li Yaqin first, as if seeking her opinion. Seeing her silent, he replied, "Yes, Brother Hao." Unaware of the details regarding Baldy and Axe Gang, Lin Dongyang was somewhat surprised at himself that he now sought a girl's opinion before agreeing to something, indicating rapid progress between them. Not wanting to intrude further on their romantic stroll, Hao Jian said, "Alright, continue your walk; I won't disturb your couple time and will call you later." Lin Dongyang nodded and replied, "Okay, Brother Hao, see you," as Hao Jian walked off into the distance. Lin Dongyang deeply respected Hao Jian as his mentor, knowing without him, he wouldn't be where he was, thus feeling both respect and admiration for him. After Hao Jian left, Li Yaqin looked at Lin Dongyang inquisitively and asked, "So… what does Brother Hao want to talk to you about?" Aware of Hao Jian's guidance to Lin Dongyang, she called him Brother Hao due to Lin Dongyang's telling. Hearing her question, Lin Dongyang merely smiled and replied, "You'll find out eventually." Of course, he couldn't tell her about joining Hao Jian for certain activities, as it might cause unnecessary worry, thus keeping quiet seemed best; after achieving something concrete, she'd learn regardless. Continuing to stroll sweetly across the playground, exchanging laughs and chatter, they embraced the evening air. ...... Hao Jian, walking aimlessly, felt idle and continued his wandering across the campus. Then, suddenly, his phone buzzed, revealing a message from Zhang Danlin: "Come quickly to the third milk tea shop at school; there's something I need to discuss," Zhang Danlin said. Seeing this, Hao Jian felt a headache forming; peace had barely returned, and now Zhang Danlin had matters requiring his attention. He hadn't yet resolved things with Liang Xiaohan, and now here they were together; this couldn't be seen by others, lest trouble arose. Alas, he contemplated momentarily, opting to ignore the message and pocket his powerless phone. Yet, just as his phone rested in his pocket, a familiar voice reached out to him. "Hao Jian!" It was Zhang Danlin calling out. He paused, tracing the voice back to its source, seeing Zhang Danlin standing nearby. Oh my god, he thought, she's really unavoidable. He wondered why Zhang Danlin would message him, only to materialize shortly thereafter. Plans to feign ignorance were now futile, with Zhang Danlin confronting him directly. "I just sent you a message; did you see it?" Zhang Danlin inquired upon reaching Hao Jian. He nodded and replied, "I did." "Now that you have, let's walk together to avoid wasting more time," Zhang Danlin suggested. Unable to refuse, Hao Jian followed Zhang Danlin towards the milk tea shop. As they walked, the silence lingered, neither speaking as they continued onward. In truth, a slight tremor quivered within Hao Jian's heart, presuming Zhang Danlin's intentions, yet uncertain of her actions. After all, today's earlier happenstance was unexpected, a significant surprise indeed.
