Divine Descend
Divine Descend
As everyone's eyes were locked onto Scarlett, no one actually paid attention to Lunatic, who was standing at the back. She softly swirled her fingers behind her back, casting one spell after another.
The sky turned bright with yellow and pure white light. At the same time, Scarlett released her third type of aura—her divinity.
It made the current situation feel holy and majestic to everyone. Their eyes weren't blinking, as if fully mesmerized by it.
And then, another wave of blinding light came from the heavens, piercing the clouds. A pillar of light descended to the ground, causing many to squint their eyes.
And then, from the pillar of light, a figure of a human slowly revealed itself, hovering in the air. Behind him, a few other humans with pale white skin and pure white wings on their backs, wearing just casual white garments and a golden halo above their head.
They were grabbing the human figure by his shoulders, keeping him in the air and slowly taking him down.
"A-are they angels?" someone spoke in a baffled voice.
But no one replied. Everyone was too shocked to say anything.
Having a dead body open its eyes and stand up—in short, making it come back to life—would have been shocking enough.
But to actually call someone from heaven and let angels accompany him while he descended—this was just beyond shock for them.
Of course, those angels were just illusions. Even the holy pillar of light and the mesmerizing atmosphere—it was all Lunatic's doing.
The human figure slowly descended in front of Scarlett, revealing its form. He was none other than Leonidas. As he landed on the ground, the angels' figures shimmered and disappeared into thin air.
At the same time, Scarlett stood up with a faint smile on her face and looked at Leonidas.
Leonidas didn't say anything to Scarlett, nor did Scarlett to him. They both were silent, and then Leonidas turned around, facing the crowd.
He took a deep breath and said, "I was asleep, in a peaceful dream. I was wandering in heaven. But then Lady Scarlett's voice came, telling me I still have my duty as king to fulfill. I can't rest now. My people need me, my kingdom needs me, and most of all, the prosperous future of Gwarga needs me!" he said in a benevolent voice, his voice echoing through the whole crowd.
The whole crowd silently looked at him for a second—and then it cheered.
Some jumped, some threw whatever they had in their hands in celebration, some hugged each other. For some reason, it indicated that the weakest kingdom, Gwarga, would surely become something stronger, better, and prosperous.
"Glory to King Leonidas!"
"Glory to Goddess Scarlett!"
Chants filled the air as everyone shouted in rhythm. Meanwhile, writers just couldn't stop writing.
They were in a hurry, as if someone might kill them in a few minutes. They wrote so fast that their pens fell from their hands, but instead of bending down to pick them up, they decided to write with pencils from their pockets instead.
"Fuck, it was even more cringe. I wonder how he could say all that with such a calm face," Scarlett thought to herself, but it was actually obvious that a master bootlicker like him would be way better at these things than Scarlett could ever hope to be.
After that, Scarlett and Leonidas gave a few more lines of speech. Of course, most of the speech was carried out by Leonidas. He spoke honeyed words like a politician using clickbait for votes.
After a few minutes, everything ended.
Scarlett's work was done anyway. All that was left was to wait for the results of her performance.
The journalists had also gone back in a hurry. The news of this would surely spread through all kingdoms by evening or even night.
Maybe tomorrow if any mishaps happen, but it won't change the fact that a bit of narrative would be on her side.
"You did well," Scarlett said to Lunatic with a smile.
Lunatic smiled back. "You as well," she replied.
They both returned to DreadHaven once again. Lunatic quickly went on her way—she was going to lead the succubi after all. Although they were receiving combat training from Li Feng, no one could understand the power of succubi better than a succubus queen.
Besides, it had already been around a year since Lunatic or her fellow succubi had fought. She needed to teach them about plans and strategies they would use to fight.
As for Scarlett, she quickly went to her royal palace to meet Prez Yumi.
As she was on her way, she ended up bumping into her in the hallway by chance.
"Ohh, it's good to find you here. Did she come?" Scarlett asked.
Prez paused for a second and then nodded. "Yes, I was actually waiting for you. Come with me," she said, turning around.
Actually, after meeting Vermillion, Jenessa, and Kaelan, she was thinking about having a chat with the merchant queen Liorra as well, but when Scarlett returned to DreadHaven to oversee the situation here, Yumi told her that Liorra was actually on her way here and would arrive by tomorrow afternoon, so there was no need for her to go to her.
A few seconds later, they both arrived in Yumi's office. Liorra was already sitting there, but just as she saw Scarlett and Yumi enter, she stood up immediately.
"Were you doing some important work? I've been waiting here for quite a while now," she said.
Scarlett smiled mischievously. "Yep, definitely important work. You'll soon know," she said.
Liorra felt a bit puzzled by her answer but didn't ask anything.
The three took their seats and exchanged some pleasantries first, then finally got on the main topic.
"About the golden apples, I hope you won't take advantage of this situation to sell them to Mystveil or any other kingdoms?" Scarlett asked.
Liorra immediately shook her head, trying to remain as calm as she could.
"Definitely not. That is the reason I personally came here. To inform you personally about some tricky situations," she said.
"Although I have no intention of doing so, that doesn't change the fact that the ones I'm selling in Gwarga would not be smuggled to other kingdoms through some other person. Or a few from our kingdom might join them for money, fame, or power. I cannot take responsibility for that," she added.
"Ohh, yes. You don't have to worry about that. Prez explained it to me about that," Scarlett answered.
Liorra turned to look at Yumi. "Thank you for clearing any misunderstanding in advance," she said softly.
Scarlett looked between Yumi and her. "What thank you? I had a general idea about such situations even if Yumi wouldn't have explained it to me. Is she thinking I'm stupid?" Scarlett thought to herself, her lips twitching.
Meanwhile, Yumi nodded lightly. "There's no need. I have a solution for it. It is finally time we should increase the prices of golden apples. I'm sure all the users would've been addicted enough by now," she said with a cold smile detached from any sympathy.
Liorra didn't feel too surprised by it. She kind of expected this future when she last had a meeting with Yumi at DreadHaven—that she was going to increase prices drastically when the users of it got addicted enough.
"How much should I increase? The base price is one hundred gold coins to one hundred and fifty, but they are generally resold at two hundred, even three hundred gold coins, so I would suggest at least four hundred to five hundred gold coins," she said.
"Five thousand!" Yumi added. For some reason, her voice felt tough and full of authority, leaving no room for argument.
"F-five thousand? Isn't it a bit too much of an increase?" she said. Even one or even two thousand gold coins might have been under her expectations, but five thousand gold coins was too much. She turned to look at Scarlett for confirmation.
"You heard her. Even I dare not go against her words," Scarlett replies nonchalantly.
"Not just that. Before, we were selling them to anyone, but now one must submit their information and also deposit one thousand gold coins for VIP subscription. Only then can they buy it," Yumi added.
"It's even more absurd. Why this subscription thing? Will anyone even buy it?" Liorra said.
"They'll definitely buy it, even if they have to sell their property or their body parts. As long as one is desperate enough. Besides, many might've been thinking of reselling it at a higher price. This would fool their plans, and as for information, it'll come in handy if someone is connected to Mystveil. We'll only deliver to certain verified individuals now," Yumi explained and then smiled.
"Of course, that is just one side of the coin. We have a war to come. You think the damages we'll face will be healed on their own? Or we'll do it with our own money? Definitely not! Anyone can understand it'll result in economic crisis, inflation, and price hype. We can't just gather around and work for free just because it's our home. It might've worked before, but now we have already introduced the concept of money. Old tips won't work," she added.
"Not only that, we might need help of other kingdoms as well, so foreign reserves are important." Yumi finally took a breath after explaining all of it in just one breath.
"I understand. You're right. You got the monopoly. I'll just do as you told me to," Liorra admitted with a sigh.
"Good, let's talk about a few other things," Yumi said with a cold smile.
They continued their conversation regarding some other business deals and trade.
Scarlett was just a bystander at this point, just overhearing their conversation with a calm smile. She had full faith in Yumi's capabilities, so there was no need for her to intervene.
"I kind of forget that Prez is also one of my best trump cards," she thought to herself.
Not just a trump card but a hidden trump card. For anyone who was familiar with Scarlett, they could only think about the powerful figures she was surrounded with like Lunatic, Reiza, Li Feng, etc.
But Yumi was the backbone of DreadHaven. She was the reason everything was running smoothly.
