Chapter 1519 - 871
Big Camphor Tree Base.Li Yu received a message from Third Uncle, learning that they had already left the Transfer Station and were now heading toward that lithium battery factory in New City.
So Li Yu told Third Uncle about his idea of going to search the military bases again.
He actually felt a bit awkward about it; Third Uncle and his team had been running missions nonstop, barely taking any breaks.
But now that Southern Paradise had appeared, Third Uncle also understood the current situation—one helicopter was still far from enough.
Previously, they had found two helicopters in Zheng City, but only this one was usable; even so, that was already extremely lucky for them.
The Doomsday had been going on this long, and being able to find even one plane that still worked was very rare.
The last trip to Chen City had yielded nothing, and they hadn’t found any helicopters at the military base in Shaosh City either.
That alone showed just how lucky they’d been to find this helicopter in Zheng City that time.
Coincidentally, they had a military map in hand, which they had to make full use of.
Third Uncle understood this as well, so he told Li Yu that once they returned, they would continue searching military bases to see if they could find another helicopter.
After hearing Third Uncle agree, Li Yu put down the headset of the military radio and headed toward the Inner City.
During this period, under Qingyang’s Acupuncture Technique combined with two courses of herbal medicine, Grandpa had almost fully recovered.
Li Yu was also surprised to discover that Qingyang and his little sister Li Yuan seemed to be showing signs of a budding romance.
But Li Yu didn’t step in to meddle; from every angle, this Qingyang was a decent person, so he just let things run their course.
...
New City.
As one of the country’s top lithium battery enterprises before the Doomsday, this company had massive capacity in terms of equipment, technology, and raw material storage.
Third Uncle, Old Qin and the others leaned against the low wall at the edge of the rooftop, overlooking the opposite factory where Old Bi was directing people to use forklifts and other equipment to move raw materials and instruments out of the plant and load them onto trucks.
Without Zombies interfering, they were able to move very quickly.
Third Uncle and the others could just take the chance to rest for a bit.
Old Bi’s group kept working, hauling from nine in the morning all the way to noon before they finished.
They filled ten trucks with raw materials, lithium batteries, and equipment.
They hadn’t loaded everything, but there was nothing they could do; they simply couldn’t fit more.
From now on, every time they returned from Oil City to the Big Camphor Tree Base, they would have to transport the rest back in batches.
After Old Bi’s group finished loading, they rested for twenty minutes, then set out.
Before leaving, Third Uncle and the others once again found a way to seal the factory’s main gate; they couldn’t stop people, but stopping Zombies wouldn’t be a problem.
Very soon.
About three hours after Old Bi’s group departed, Third Uncle and the others piloted the helicopter toward the Big Camphor Tree Base.
The road had been cleared by Xiao Jun, so Old Bi’s convoy wasn’t too slow; they could still maintain a speed of about forty kilometers per hour.
Roughly half an hour into the flight, the helicopter spotted the convoy on the road.
Third Uncle and the others circled twice overhead, then Third Uncle had the Jackals fly on toward the base.
They flew on all the way.
After a bit more than half an hour, Third Uncle and the others arrived at the Big Camphor Tree Base.
The running around these last two days wasn’t actually that exhausting for them.
Third Uncle got off the helicopter and stayed in the Weng City for a few minutes.
Then, covered in dust from travel, he pushed open the duty room door; he wanted to discuss searching for military bases with Li Yu.
But Li Yu wasn’t there.
It was through Song Min in the duty room that Third Uncle learned Li Yu had gone to the Inner City, so Third Uncle headed there as well.
After coming down from the perimeter wall, Third Uncle was surprised to see new construction underway in the Inner City: excavators were digging not far from the factory building.
Judging from the scale of the work, it was no small project; with doubts in mind, Third Uncle found Li Yu at the entrance of the medical room.
Li Yu had just finished checking on Grandpa, and as soon as he stepped out, he saw Third Uncle.
His face lit up as he said, "Third Uncle, you’re back."
"Mm. Xiao Yu, you said you wanted to search the military bases again—are you hoping to find another helicopter?"
Li Yu nodded and said, "Yes. From where we stand now, a single helicopter can’t meet our current needs."
"Mm, I think so too. But you know as well as I do, the Doomsday has been going on for a long time; we might not be as lucky as last time and find another working one.
Still, since you want to look, I’m in favor. So where are you planning to search?"
"I’ve been studying the military map these past two days. I think the most likely places to still have helicopters—if we don’t go north—come down to just three.
Gui City, Kun City, and one more: Fu City."
Talking as they walked, the two of them headed up the hill inside the Inner City.
Li Yu continued, "But Fu City is close to the sea and was hit hard by typhoon-type natural disasters, so I’m thinking we go to Gui City or Kun City first."
Third Uncle stayed silent, quietly listening to Li Yu.
"And Kun City is a bit far from us, so I’m planning to make a trip to Gui City first; it’s relatively closer."
Li Yu spoke as he watched Third Uncle’s expression.
He wanted to hear what Third Uncle thought.
After pondering for a few seconds, Third Uncle said, "The helicopter rescue base in Huaxi District, Gui City?"
Hearing this, Li Yu nodded and said, "Yes. Third Uncle, how did you know?"
