Chapter 306: Careful
“It’s Shi Liaozhi...” Looking at Jiang Cheng and Xia Meng, Fatty said, “It’s because Shi Liaozhi is already dead. He has been replaced by the ghost, so there’s no play tonight.” Xia Meng and Jiang Cheng didn’t look surprised.
KNOCK! KNOCK!
The sudden knocking shocked Fatty. He whipped his head at the door. A clear human shadow was reflected on the paper door. He didn’t hear the footsteps of this new arrival. Fatty asked subconsciously, “Who is it?”
However, he quickly regretted it. He had a guess regarding who it was. It was the ghost, the ghost pretending to be Shi Liaozhi. After the travellers dumped him, he returned.
The shadow outside the door seemed to realise her trick had been exposed. It stood there mechanically. The hand slowly lowered. Then, a strange voice said, “Dear Dafu.” The shadow didn’t move, “Young Master is going to perform his favourite play tonight. Dafu has to attend.”
Xia Meng’s expression froze. Fatty was startled. This was not Shi Liaozhi’s voice... It was the middle-aged woman! There was a play that night!
Not long after she left, the other travellers slowly returned. Shi Liaozhi was the last to return. Once he entered the room, he glared at everyone with suppressed anger. He knew why he was being treated that way. However, in the end, he said nothing. He found a spot and sat down.
They were gathered in Jiang Cheng’s room because this was the middle-aged woman’s arrangement. They were told to wait there until San Geng. A part of them would join the play, and the others would stay in the room.
The arrangement was clear. An Xuan, Xia Meng, Fatty and Chen Qiang would join the play. The other four would remain in the room.
“Why is that the arrangement?” You Qi was anxious as he looked around, “Do we have to do nothing but to wait?” However, he knew things wouldn’t be so simple.
“Thank you, Mr. An,” Chen Qiang replied on Fatty’s behalf.
To ensure the task would go without a hitch, An Xuan suggested they dissect the details. The conclusion they had was... No one was safe. The ghost could make its move at any segment.
The sky darkened. After the discussion, they separated. They focused on handling what could happen that night. While no one was noticing, Fatty came close to Jiang Cheng. Before he could weep, Jiang Cheng heartlessly cut him off.
“Keep your eyes open when you’re underwater,” Jiang Cheng said casually.
“Doctor,” Fatty pouted, “I wish my body were covered in eyes.” Then, he realised how scary that would be.
“I’m not talking about the ghost.” Jiang Cheng said impatiently, “Keep your eyes on your diving partner.”
“Chen Qiang?!” Fatty widened his eyes. He swallowed and turned to where Chen Qiang was. The latter sat at the corner with his eyes closed. He seemed to be meditating. Fatty turned back to the Doctor, “Do you think he’s suspicious?” Going down in the lake with someone whom the Doctor suspected... Fatty really thought he might not be coming back.
With a glance at Fatty, the Doctor knew he misunderstood him again. He sighed helplessly, “He’s fine now, but once you’re out of the water,” He paused, “It’ll be hard to say.”
Fatty’s eyes widened. “Do you think the ghost will kill him when we are underwater and then come back with us disguised as Chen Qiang?” Fatty blinked, “But wouldn’t I be an easier target?” After all, Fatty had to admit he would be easier to kill than Chen Qiang.
Jiang Cheng looked into his eyes and patted his shoulder. The next second, Jiang Cheng stretched his neck. He whispered in a creepy tone, “That is a good question!”
